After lurking for the better part of a year. I finally joined.

I also just finished up modifying my echo CS-400. Standard cat removal and opened the exit as well as deflector.

The limiter tabs whipped me. The wood deck screws I used cored the centers out. So I ended up prying the cover plate out and removing them that way. I have ordered replacements to shave the fins off and put back on.

I read countless threads and watched so many videos. I am not quite sure what the high end sound I should be looking for is but I gave it my best shot.

The chain was a brand new Stihl 63PS, I don’t think I like it as much as the Oregon 91VXL.

Fat ? Lean? Somewhere In between?

I know you got your limiter caps out. But I thought I would post the how to from quite a few tries.

First procure some #6 fine thread drywall screws. 2 inch in length is best
1 Turn the cap clockwise until it hits the stop. From this point you are going to try to form some threads in the cap using the drywall screw by forcing it to turn clockwise just a bit. About a quarter turn should do.

2 Now turn the cap back counter clockwise with a straight screwdriver until it hits the stop in that direction.
with the cap against this stop counter clockwise it is ready to lift out, As long as you do not rotate it clockwise any.

3 Now use the same drywall screw to try to engage the threads you cut in step one by gently turning clockwise. Do NOT actually rotate the cap. If you do go back and reset it to fully counter clockwise with the straight screwdriver.

4 Using the drywall screw you want to turn in into the cap just enough to engage the prior cut threads but NOT enough to rotate the cap.

5 If you have not rotated the cap just pull the drywall screw out. The cap is aligned to pull free when fully counter clockwise. if your cut threads hold the cap should come out on the tip of the screw. Then get a beer.

6 Use box knife or anything really to trim off the tabs on the limiter and reinsert onto the screw.

Tune the saw by turning the high counter clockwise until it runs poorly in a cut. Slowly ( 1/8 ) turn at a time adjust clockwise to make the saw more lean and keep trying to cut with the bar buried. When it cuts good stop adjusting. you have tuned to cut by approaching from the rich side of the tune. Guaranteed to be a safe tune.

Any comments of this advise welcome !!

H is fine, L may be a little lean with that bogging off idle you have.
