Earlier in the summer I took the top off this dying Tupelo but left 40' standing. I had some time before TG dinner and dropped it thinking I would turn it into firewood but after seeing the colored rings on the stump I decided to slice some. I've only seen one table ever made out of it, but it was very nice. Stacked and stickered, will see how much it walks.

Nice work TW!

Given your mill is on rail tracks I'm surprised to see you are getting gouges on your boards? Have you been able to diagnose what causes these, does saw dust on the track do this?

Bob,

That's operator error, I stopped to put in some wedges, chain a bit slack and then fired up again. I usually do better than that. Notice that they are in about the same place near the end of cut. I went 5/4 so if they don't cup too much should be able to plane them out.

If they are not managable for some type of woodwork, wife says she wants them for fireplace kindling

Update

Up date from TG. Since it was standing dead, I stacked and stickered in basement. When cut they registered 27% +/- on the meter and yesterday down to 17% so I decided to edge and plane one of them. No spalting or rot, just strong colors and so far not a lot of twisting or cupping but expecting some. If any end up usable I have in mind an end table. MS on the board.
