Hello everyone,
been finding this site amazing. I have about a decade of saw use since I was 14. I just bought a MS270 18" and placed some ads in the local papers to try and get some work for the saw. I plan on getting labonville chaps and have steel toe chippewa heels already, they should work right? I dunno if I really need caulks or if I could put them in myself? Anyway my main question is :

I won't be doing too much felling (for customers anyway) maybe a tree here or there or a snag, but will be limbing and bucking alot, from downed trees. Do you think a turtle aluminum hat is better or a faceshielded husq. hard hat with muffs? Seems like the faceshield would do exactly that, protect your face, better than a turtle helmet. No doubt I will deffinetly need a good hard hat for the years ahead. Pickin up the 270 tomoro!

Any suggestions on how to get clients? We had a storm up here in MA this winter and crews are going crazy! Been sawing awhile but just starting to get into the business of it all. Cut some trees here and there while I garden too. Funny my boss cuts alot of the trees and she makes the back cut about 6 inches lower than the undercut, needless to say the trees fall very awkwardly, she said she worked for a arborist, but I think she might be full of ####, doesn't this sound like a dangerous felling technique if it is one

If you're only doing groundwork, I'd say you're ahead of the game because you're even contemplating buying a hard hat. Any old ANSI hard hat will work in conjunction with safety eye wear and hearing protection. I personally hate ear muffs but thats all personal preference. Good luck

thnks terms and dood!
Well I work as a gardener full time and get so much sun I look like a raisin! Anything that will shade and protect both my skin and head sounds good to me! I'm trying to find a used helmet, they're hard to find.

they are cheap as dirt.

Home Depot and Lowe's should have them.try a hardware store as well.

i prefer the peltor full system with hardhat, faceshield and earmuffs. dad wore somthing similar, and so thats what i bought, and thats what im used to.

I like my Husvarna hat with muffs and faceshield. Better than the Stilh, or several other brands I have tried. Among other things, it has a neat little rain gutter that lets you shed light rain off the front, instead of down your back.

Turtle? Never had one, but they look like muffs would be hard to mount on them. Oops. Now you are reduced to ear plugs or deafness. Better sunshade, though.

does the husqvarna face sheild mask protect much against kickback?

Not really. It would probably tip the hard hat down in the first moment of a facial hit, then the entire hat would be flipped off as the chain went to work on your face.

I like the face shields because I can butt my way through brush and not worry about sticks getting me in the face.

It beats air alone, and might just rob that last bit of momentum from the bar before it kisses your shnoz.

Agreed on keeping the brush and whips from clawing up your face.
Cutting in and around briars taxes concentration on what you are doing, and the face shield removes some irritating distractions.

Stay safe!

Keep in mind that aluminum hardhats have no electrical certification, unlike the plastic. I don't know what you plan to do or where you will be working, but you may be limited on sites that require an electrical certification.
