1. I was at the hardware store buying some 50:1 mix and they some 2 cycle mix that you mix with a gallon of gas that is SUPPOSE to be able to use in anything that calls from 16:1 - 50:1.
I can't remember the name brand though. I wondered what everyone thought about that. Sounds leary to me.

2. I was weedeating this weekend and was wondering if opening up the muffler on a trimmer would have the same results as on a chainsaw?

Thanks

HA! That would be cool!

Arrrgh! Arrrghhh!!!

Yeah! thats what I thought. I finnaly found string that I like for now anyway and thought I could really tear it up if I had some more POWER!

The same mix..the one bottle of 2cycle added to 1 gallon of gas was suppose to be able to use in any 2 cycle motor that required a mix in the range i listed. Like you could run the same gas/oil mix for a husky 50:1 and same stuff for like a homelite at 32:1. Did that make any sense?

Doug- Stihl made the same claim about their 2-cycle oil, that it could be run in any two-stroke engine regardless of what NORMAL mix it took before. However, it isn't advisable. At 50:1 in a machine made to run 32:1 or 16:1 a lot more heat is going to be generated, because the body of the oil is just not there. Run whatever the machine was designed for.

As far as opening up your muffler is concerned, you can get away with it on most weed eater type engines, but the newer Stihls and Husqvarnas have EPA regulated carbs which may not be able to compensate for the change in backpressure and flow.

I concur completely with Brian. Been doing it this way for 15 years --no oil related problems of any kind.

That's true to a certain extent, however if you fire up your old Mac 125 saw and run 50:1 Stihl mix through it, I can guarantee the piston will be scored in under 20 minutes.

Thanks for the reply's. I've just never seen an oil listed like that.

I won't argue with you Jacob J. I settled on 32/1 for everything back when I had some stuff that called for 16/1. Since I didn't have carboning problems or smoking I never went higher/lower than 40/1. I know 50/1 works- the manufacturers can't afford lots of catastrophic failures-but I thought and still think that a richer oil ratio provides some extra protection and longevity.
