A couple of days' ago i was using my fly climbing line w/ a brand new ultratech eye and eye cord i'd splice. I was using a vt which i've never had a prob. w/ before,,,WEll after climbing a little bit i was looking over my gear and i'd burned quite a nasty hole in the cover of my ultra tech, i've never had this prob w/ this before w/ ultratech. To my recolection i didn't come burning down at all either, i'm not sure what happened there...I would have been real pissed if i'd paid sherrill 28 bucks.......I was using a false crotch and i know it puts more friction at the hitch, but still. This wasn't the first time i've used this set up ..in fact i used it in the work climb a month ago and i really came burning down to land the target . There weren't any problems that time....Who knows...Anyone had prob's w/ a 5/16 prusik cord and vt on the fly?

I agree w/ rocky here. no need for the splice either, just use fiserman's knots on either end. I've used the sta-set for over a year now and have had no problems w/ the cover burning up. Also on a vt.

The only thing I could see having a high tech fiber is for the cover, some will have a high char factor. Then if you do burn down, your not glazing the rope.
