The most unique feature of the Unicender is that it works on DdRT AND!!! SRT. It's a fine tool.

The only thing that isn't perfect is that when used in SRT mode it doesn't have a one-handed tailing capabliity. I'm putting some thought into how that can be overcome. This is such a small negative compared to how well it works in the other modes that It don't even consider the issue.

What do you mean by the comment about the links?

Bulky? Compared to...? The size is very acceptable.

Pretty neat Tom!

IN the DdRT compared to elusive (fer hitches) SRT slide; what is looseness of device as goes to slide in DdRT compared to SRT?

Am figuring looser on DdRT especially with frictional redirect/support, but slip 'allowed' by device in SRT is due to slip of metal; that hitch can't accommodate?

Enquiring minds writhe in torment;
like worm on hot plate;
as they knead to know!

i guess that great snow/ice man avatar is gone with the season?

Ken,

You're right, in DdRT mode the load is halved so the effect of the internal friction is halved too. When I tail the Uni up the rope in DdRT method it is super smooth. A lot like the Lock Jack. Where the Uni really shines is in SRT mode though. The friction is a bit higher but nothing to be concerned with. Since I climb mostly on Blaze the Uni slides up nicely. One time I did use a 16 strand, half inch rope. The Uni slid a bit harder but nothing to even be concerned about.

This is the closest thing to a solution for SRT climbing. It goes up and down the rope with ease!

It looks like a great tool. It looks like it might be painful if you slip or accidently swing into the trunk. Its hard to tell from one pict though.

i guess my thoughts on the links were that they be solid or riveted. but that in no way is gonna keep me from ordering one from my local arborist supply they have it in the fresh catalog I gotin the mail today thanks tom for the timely info
