Oh thought they might be I have a chassis come back as 038super but it's set up as an 028 super at least it's an 028 super top cover and everything else looks identical to my 028wb saws gotta pull top end I never measured piston or bore cause it's still got machine lines

I happened to find a magnesium 038 tank among my spare parts that I believe came with my 028WB as a spare. Dimensionally they are a bit different and are not interchangeable. The 038 tank is larger capacity and will interfere with the flywheel housing on the case.

Very interesting this 038 super showed up at my shop today 😅 guy traded it for wome parts and help on a saw. Goes to show you Stihl ain't always right. The saw to your left is an 028 super that 3 stihl dealers say the serial # traces to an 038super. But these chassis are CLEARLY different. By about half an inch width actually. Since I hadn't done saws for almost a decade I wasn't sure only going off what atihl said. The 1st dealer also told me they were the same set up just diff slug and jug 🙄 anyway timing was funny I thought.... so that being said who wants to buy a beautiful stihl 028 super I've refurbished. Refurbished not restored lol sometimes u gotta clean it and leave that work horse patina. I'll post it in tradin soon now that I confirmed it isn't an 038 chassis don't even gotta pull the jug to measure 038 and 028 deff not much interchangeable
Gald I'm learning all of this again

That's pretty funny timing for sure!
Well it gets funnier, I guess yesterday I had too much miller with my crown... it was 034 super the dealer said. Now who knows if the 028 super and 034 super are interchangeable or if they had the same handle/tank. Bc my memory says the 028 is series 1118 and 034 1125... Am i remembering wrong?I do not want to pull top end to measure if there is another way. SN on chassis, (standard placement by muffler) traces to a 1982 034 super I knew I shoulda mic'd the piston and bore but it looked damn near brand new inside... what I get.

Yes the 028 series is 1118. No clue on 034 series.

You can rough measure a bore by taking off the muffler, rotating crank until piston is below exhaust port, stick a plastic drinking straw through exhaust port until it hits other side of cylinder then rotate crank until piston comes up and crimps the straw. Remove straw, measure from the end of the straw to the crimp and that will get you real close to bore diameter.

Not my idea, just passing it along.

This means my only logical choice, given this is a saw for sale, and I am a man that simply must know.... I have no other option but to pull the saw apart again and mic the piston and bore. I cannot sell it until I'm certain

028 is 1118 series came with 42 44 and 46mm bores

038 is 1119 series came with 48 50 and 52mm bores

034/036/360 is 1125 series came with 46 and 48mm bores

Handles/cases/cylinders are different for all 3
