When there are blackberries growing around a tree and in my way, I use my 32" bar saw to clear them out. A few sweeps of my saw and they are out of the way.

But I can't always see what is in the blackberries before doing this, so I was wondering if anyone else does this and ever had any problems doing this?

I could just as easily take my string trimmer to do this (which has the string replaced with those plastic cutter blades).

tried it also

just cut with the top of the bar and not the bottom or you'll pull all the cut pieces in your direction and end up having them tangled in your clothes while your saw is still ''in there''.

Anyway, dont like it generally as blackberry things tend to attack me when i cut them standing too close. (can be lot of tension in them)

They are tangled higher up and sometimes the stems just sway upwards in your face...

Nothing beats the right tool for the right job though.

Sawblade or tri-blade on that strimmer and :yourock:

(no experience with the plastic blades)

All the time. Unless you use a saw blade or metal attatchment of some type on your trimmer you will have plastic flying around. Them berries can be awfull tough. Even around the place I use a saw to keep them cut and in check.

If you are unsure about whats in the berries, go slow and peak in there often to make sure there is nothing you will hit thats gonna be hard on the chain.

Very good suggestion! It is amazing how I can ask questions about basic things and learn some really good stuff!
