Looking to pick one of these up in the near future. It is my understanding Stihl has one for $150 and than you drop down to MiteyVac(sp) for $20 I believe.

Well I don't want to spend the $150 but the MiteyVac looks cheap. I'm looking for something that is mid-range I suppose and something that I'll get my moneys worth.

Won't be using often so maybe the MiteyVac is the way to go...I don't know :bang:

Thanks in advance for your input.

For an occasional use tool, buy what fits your budget. Craftsman has vacuum testers, so does Harbor Freight. I bet the "Stihl" model is manufactured by someone else and is re-badged with the $125 "Stihl" name.

I have a Mityvac that's well over 10 years old and still works fine. It gets used probably once per month. One of these along with a pressure bulb (like used for checking blood pressure) and a pressure/vacuum gauge should well suffice the needs of a homeowner checking for air leaks and checking out carbs.

MytiVac

Works Great for the money,,,, plus has good assortment of slip on fittings test carbs and crankcases no problem and works great for bleeding automotive brake systems as intended. Good all around tool.........

I don't know if this is still true, but the Mityvac used to come in 2 versions, an all-plastic throwaway one and a rebuildable metal one.

Buy the cheap one, they all work fine until you accidently suck up some old, varnished gas in them.....................

These are the two I use the most, left one for carbs, that way I don't have to be changing tips all the time, the one on the right is a Mighty Vac for pressure testing and vacumm, I'd be lost without these two tools. The MV came with in a kit with many different tips and plugs and neoprene sheets that can be cut to block off the intake and exhaust ports, works great. I didn't think the price was too bad for the tester and the extras that can be used for other purposes, about $80 plus the shipping.
