Looking for new relevant information 2013+ regarding Vermeer chippers. I would like to know firsthand from someone if the BC 15 or BC 1800 is having any major issues? Because of my location it has to be a Vermeer because of service. Yes they make better chippers out there but their service sucks here.
I have had a used BC 1230 and it has done an excellent job for me . of course it has had The usual random electrical and mechanical problems but all in all a great machine .
Also is it worth buying a brand-new machine or finding one with 500 to 1000 hours on it? I want this to be my last chipper and give me a good 10+ years of reliable service. So hop up on the soapbox and start typing !

You know when it comes to servicing chippers or grinders or anything really, one is better off using a good mobile mechanic, the kind of guy that drives around to the farms and job site servicing all sort of equipment. These guy usually know just about everything as long as the equipment doesn't have proprietary software involve. Once computers are involved its a whole different story. Any good equipment mechanic can keep a chipper running. They are pretty simple things.

Oh, and you are always better off buying an older machine with a non-ECM engine than a new computer control one.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have heard that advice even from the vermeer mechanics. Buy an older one to avoid all the headaches. The bc1200 has been great, we just need a larger capacity. The older 1800 seem like they have all been used and abused. Ill keep looking through the used ads. Again, thank you and everyone for taking time out to offer advice.
