Need to replace the engine on my SC 252.
Looking for any input on route we should go.Not too happy with the Kohler product.Replacement engine is Kohler Command Pro CH730-0019.
Wondering if anyone has gone with other engines.

Why aren't you happy with the Kohler product? How many hours did you get? I've been happy with mine, 2003 252, up to 2975 hours, no problems, except recent oil weeping a little from a gasket somewhere down low and underneath. The Kohler 27hp is a direct replacement, two more hp, but why stop there?

Why not upsize a bit if you need to replace anyway? Some on this site (Plyscamp) have replaced with a 35hp Briggs Vanguard engine. Took some mounting plate mods but everything else is a direct bolt up replacement. Look for previous threads. I'm going to do that when the Kohler gets closer to dying. You can pick them up for a little over $2K online I think.

Please understand that when you change from one engine manufacturer to another, you're going to have to change the motor mounts and possibly other things as well. It's best to stay with Kohler.

Hope this helps!
