Hi my name is Sam. I come on here once in a while. Anyways, I have read some threads on the conversion, but was hoping to get some more info. Maybe a list of the stuff that needs to be done to make the engine work. What engine model and shaft size, where to order it from, and any pictures would be great. Also, any other helpful tips or other modifications to get this little guy working more efficiently. It is a 1999 I believe, but I will recheck today.

I believe machining the mounting plate is a pleasure each upgrader has to experience on his own, as depending on your skills you gotta spend the one and other thought and effort on it.

Sam : I've done a Kohler 34 HP conversion on my 252..http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/252-kohler-34-hp-upgrade.268014/#post-5487723
Whether you use a 35 Briggs or a 34 Kohler , just be aware that you will stress other things on the machine. I've had to beef up just about everything in the drive system since I did the conversion. Just a heads up that you should be aware that its necessary to keep a close eye on everything once you do it.
Drive belts ,especially ,take a real beating because of the increased torque transfer.
Read back through all the posts on upfitting a 252 and you'll get some great tips on belts , bearings , etc..

I have a 222. It took a full day for me to do the 35 vanguard swap but it was well worth it. New cutter wheel, teeth, belts, bearings and pulleys as well. I still run the stock pulley on the hydraulic pump though. Maybe one day I'll change it out. I would like it to move a little faster. Anyhow, I have about 25 hours grinding time with the new set up and absolutely love it.
