VT friction hitch on a saddle with no rope bridge (just D rings)?

My saddle doesn't have a rope bridge so I'm wondering if it makes a big difference if I just attach the standing end of the climbing rope to my left D ring and the friction hitch end to my right? I'm guessing that it doesn't but from every VT video I've seen everyone uses a rope bridge.

Really? That isn't going to work. Clip a biner through both dees.
 
I hope you're saying your saddle doesn't have a rope bridge between the two D-rings attached to your leg strap(s) and NOT saying your saddle only has 2 positioning D-rings ... one at each hip bone.

Yes that is right. My saddle has four D rings total and I'm using the pair that's attached to the leg straps.

I'll post a new thread with a pic of the self advancing VT setup that doesn't jam.

I don't always use a bridged saddle either , I go VT to swivel to saddle . Then I can unhook swivel and throw it around the crotch be tied in less the 30 seconds .
