I'm trying to get an old Poulan 3450 running again. The saw has good spark, but the plug was dry when I pulled it. The carburetor is a Walbro HDA, and I've ordered a kit for it, along with new fuel line, fuel filter, and impulse line.

I'm new to rebuilding chainsaw carbs, is there anything I should be aware of when I do the work?

Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!

Nope, pretty straight forward. Make sure you take note of how the gaskets are installed in the carburetor when you remove them. Or better yet, take some digital photos!

If you bought the gasket kit, you will have 4 gaskets to replace. The complete rebuild kit will have extra parts - but make sure to change all the gaskets and the needle, pin and lever arm.

Everything should go swell - you ordered all the right parts for a saw that isn't getting fuel. You'll be logging in no time.

HDA carb IPL breakdown

Here is the carb brokedown for you. I have never had to replace the welch plugs in a carb yet, just cleaned them. I do use a complete kit and replace the needle seat etc. Easy 30 min job from removal to rebuild finish. Pay attention to order and how gaskets and diaphram go back in direction. Good luck. http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.n...48aaedbd7fdf184988256e1900114845?OpenDocument

Thanks guys. I ordered the complete rebuild kit, but I'll take the advice and just clean the original welch plug.

Good link, Cut4fun.

I'll post back when I get the old saw running. Meantime, I'll be cutting with my new Stihls. :)
