New Shindiawa 757 with Walbro HDA has blank plastic cap with no screwdriver slot where the high speed adjustment would be. Anybody know if there is an adjustable needle under that cap? Didn't want to pry it out to find out as my removal methods leave the caps dorked up. Thanks in advance/

That carburetor is fully adjustable under those limiter caps. They are meant as a deterrent. They are pretty much a PITA to remove - I ended up pulling out that small aluminum surround that is pressed in and set in place. The needles are threaded thru nylon - just like a nylock nut - so don't worry about them backing out on you. On this carb, factory adjustment is 3 FULL TURNS out on both the low and high-speed needles - just make a note as most every other carburetor on a saw is 1 to 1-1/4 turns out.

Best thing you can do is hunt around for a Walbro HDA123 carb - those were the PRE-EPA standard issue on the 757.

Congrats on buying a great saw. Open the muffler up a LOT, put a set of double spikes on it, a 20" bar and a 8-pin sprocket and you will have a great machine ready to take on the hardwoods!

Thanks Paws, will check it out tomorrow PM. Went to dealer looking for a limbing saw and bought a 757 since they had them on sale at $599. My first Shindiawa. Guess it will prune limbs eh? LOL Limbing saw will hafta wait. Took it to the wood pile and it did impress for first cuts but it is set SOOO lean its scary.

Mine was set pig-fat, but I am at 5000+ feet ASL.

$600 (OTD, or plus tax?) was a good price - what size bar? With all that money you saved you can still get the limb saw :) I like my old horizontal cylinder Shindaiwas for limbing - I would suggest finding a 350, 416, 451 or 500 for limbing if you like a saw with a little character, all magnesium construction and bullet-proof design. If you are after something newer, the 377 is light and powerful. The 488 is a solid, well-proven design, but can't compete with the 5100S Dolmar for the price and power.

If you have a tach, set that saw about 12,800 -13,000 no load RPM. If you are running a 20" bar, you NEED an 8-pin sprocket.

$599, No tax Farm use;) one more in stock at that price then goes up with next order. 20" bar and 7 tooth on this one and will be looking for the 8, thanks.

we don't need no stinkin plastic cap

Not only are these pita plastic caps on chainsaws, they are on small engines. As a lark, I pried the plastic cap off of the demo model in the store, and found it had the same old screw head they've always had.

IMHO, most people aren't going to mess with these things in the first place, exceptin' for the guys on threads like this. But that's a very few.

Don't forget to mod the muffler :D
