Well fellas i'm going to put together an on line data base or reference page on bar and chain lengths it will help many in getting the right chain combination for their saws. Particually the saws of the 50's through to the early 80's.

This info i would gladly make available via my web site.

If you have an old catelogue from the mid to late 70's or early 80's let me know as i would be only too happy to buy it or if your a kinda kind soul you could donate to a good cause

If you plan a trip to the States, put Portland, Oregon, on the trip itinerary. Our technical services department has a fairly complete collection of OREGON catalogs going back to 1956 (about 1 meter thick).

I think we could sweet talk the lady in charge and you could copy all you wanted. I say sweet talk because that lady is very protective about the old catalogs and will not let them out of her office!

Gday Oregon Engineer, i'm afraid i haven't had much luck finding any out here in OZ and they really are a great source of info.

Who would i ask for some photo copies of some of the years as i'm only after the pages that show the saw models with bar lengths and drive link counts and chain type.

I hope this isn't just a pipe dream but becomes a reality.

Example the bar length and drive link count and chain code to suit a Mac 77 with a 24" bar or a Homelite Wiz with the same size bar.

Does the Lady in charge eat chocolate ??

Bob,

The Mac 77 with a 24" Oregon bar would take 74 drivers of 7/16" pitch, 64 drivers of 1/2" pitch, and 58 drivers of 9/16" pitch, The bar Oregon made for the Homelite Wiz was actually classified as a 23" bar. It takes 67 drivers of 7/16" and 58 drivers of 1/2". I will try to post a copy of one page out of an Oregon book that lists some of the Mac saws. It is a large file size so it may take a bit of time to view. I have a good supply of books that list a large supply of saws/

Exactly the type of thing i need, how about emailing a page or two at a time it would be of great assistance to those who ned a reference in sourcing chains for their old saws.

Thanks Bill

I see you are just looking for Mac information. If there are some specific saws with an approximate date (going back to 1956) let me know and I can send a copy of that information.

I would like to be able to supply a ready reference via my web site for the Mac's as thats what i specialise in but if there's the interest i would only be to happy to cover ,more of the older saws say between 1948 till say 1970.

Bill i appeciate your help that first page was great to see what else in the Mac range needs covering just check my web pages use the link at the bottom of this message.
