Chain movement carries the oil to the bottom of the bar first. Most of the oil will be flung off at the nose and there will be less oil on the top of the bar where the cutting action is taking place.

.

I agree oil will be flung off at the nose, but I think 820ward is right about top of bar getting oiled first. Down side about cutting with top of bar is more work for the nose/tip of the bar. Been lurking here for a while and in hopes of small contribution although maybe should have kept my nose out of this???

I'm open to any and all suggestions. The guys on these milling threads have real good ideas and suggestions.

Keep lurking.

Nice vid Jerry but it would much easier if you got one end of that log up on a bit of a slope. With two blokes I'll bet one could even just lever that half log up 6" at a time with a length of 4 x 2 while the other sticks something underneath?

Bob,

I thought about that after we had gotten done milling for the day. My chain was pretty dull so I wasn't pushing it real hard. Don't get me wrong, it was still cutting good, I just didn't want push hard and burn a chain or bar.

I want to make one of those pieces like you made for your off-road jack for lifting the log ends. What size material did you use and how long were the legs? I have some 1"x2"x 1/8" wall tubing. Triangulated it should be very strong.

Do you have a drawing with dimensions you could post? I didn't see any on your link, or maybe I missed them.
