Got home this morning and found a package on the porch. The boss left a message written on a box. Sat and Sun job start Nov 7, 7:30a till dark until done. Clear with 27" stumps everything goes. Make clearing for grapes 97 acres. Limb and buck to max length with min 6" top diameter everything going to pulp. Everything left will be cleanup by owner. Weekends only cause the workers will not be there to get in the way, start late as not to wake owners to early. Flat ground, ground logged, drive anywhere we want, tall stumps and no rush. I see my boy going to work with me on this one and it's already OKd by the boss for him to be there with me.

Oh ya in the box. Brand new custom corked Hauffmans. I forgot how nice a brand new pair of earth pads looks and how heavy they are, the sole is just over an inch thick cause they are a pair of climbers made into corks so he doesn't have climb anymore. Also he said everyone will now be wearing steel toe boots, I guess he got a decent cut on some insurance if he went manditory steel. So he bought everyone a new pair so he could keep the people that he wants working for him.

Only one problem they are custom so no returns they are a bit wide. Does anyone here no how to deal with boots that are to wide now even before the leather stretches some. I'm not going to complain about this but I now have to wear steel toes and I don't want to go out and by a new pair after he has just done this for me.

Bottom line back to work. Side bonus back to work with my boy.

What a great weekend.

Sounds like a dream job...good to hear...your boy should have fun on that one.

I threw a pair of those Dr. Scholl's gel insoles in a pair of boots I had that were a bit too wide, and wore one pair of really thick Fox River socks, that worked good.

I'll know more about this in a couple days when I get to meet the owners with the boss for another walk through. I will try the insoles and thick socks. The boy is jacked up about this one. His "girl friend" has an uncle that lives on the next drive on the only property line we will have to worry about. I didn't know this until we got there to take a peek and she came out. I think I'm about to see a little showing off with his chest puffed out like a rooster.

Ya I'm sure the dog will make a trip or two on this job. He likes to go with us. I'll just have to make sure nobody is afraid of dogs here.

The pulp mill here will take about anything you can have loaded to length. 6" is the boss's extreme min. We are going to try and convince the owner to make this into firewood decks. He will wind up with more on his end that way and so will the boss, then the trickle down. It would be sold and gone by spring and they can't work the ground until then anyway.

Bob remember when he handed you back your 660. You asked if he wanted to be a logger? Then you told him don't. He talked about that and was bummed for weeks. I think everything leading him away from the woods was erased today, when his girl found out that he does this work. Oh well I guess he was born with saw mix and sap in his veins.

She thought it was "totally cool that he actually worked" instead of his parents giving him money to pay for things. And it was "way cooler that he was gonna be working wear she could see him every weekend". She is gonna find out fast by him that work time is just that, play time will follow.

Updates on his progress as the job goes.

Good times to follow.

LOL...That kid has his priorities right in order. If he's smart enough to listen to pretty girls instead of busted-up old loggers he'll do just fine.

Get some pictures of the job if you can .

Good to hear on the work!!! Your son is lucky, as any woman or young lady that can respect and tolerate what a logger does day in and day out, is a good lady- and daring LOL.

Sno Seal .

Good to hear of work !! The boots can be kind of dealt with by only using Sno Seal wax , on the vamp ,(forefoot) ,use Huberds or Loggers wear or what ever you usually use on the rest of the boot ... Sno Seal doesn,t let the leather streach out very much ......Thats why it is used on Mountaineering boots ..... .The good thing about them being wide , is perhaps the steel toe box is a wide which will make them more comfortable ..... In my Vibergs that I wear for Laborin , I had them built with a size 12 steel toe box but they are size 10 E . Viberg is a pretty smart outfit !!
