Handled all the saws the Stihl dealer had and decided on the MS 361.
Not as big as I first wanted but I think it will be a saw I will be using for a long long time.

Cut some old standing dead Elm hard as rock 17” seems to cut fine but a bit slower then the Mac. Then on to some White Ash and the 361 did just fine. With a bit of fine tuning and some break-in time this saw may speed up a bit and start a little easer, it takes a few more pulls to get started then I like.

How many pulls does it take, It should not take a lot. If so take it back to dealer and have them check it out. Also all stihls start pretty much the same way. You have to do it like the book says. Mine will all start within 3 or 4 pulls.

Congratulations! The 361 is a great saw! It should handle all your firewood cutting needs nicely. I got one recently too and really like it. For a cold start, it's 3 pulls on full choke, then 1-2 pulls on half choke and it starts. At least, that's how mine works.

CONGRATS On A Fine Saw

Good choice.
You are now safe from any and all of the chainsaw worlds ills, and nobody can say anything bad about you.........

except
for
the SAW TROLL

from the looks of that wood you need another saw. Something in the 70-80cc range I would say. Or just have the 361 woods ported.:chainsaw:

036 pro

ive ran the 036 pro for over 1o years and she still starts up and gives me a good days work. i think you will be as happy as i in the future.

If that 361 keeps giving you trouble, I'll trade you my 290 for it, starts on the 3rd pull every time. You might have to through in the gallon of bar oil too, just to make the deal square!! Maybe the scrench too!

Naw I don’t think so

The dealer tried to sell me a 290. Then he tried to sell me a saw with a 5cc larger engine but made of plastic and a spur sprocket instead of a drum & Rim.

I’ll give it time to break-in with a few tanks of fuel, it'll get that today it’s cloudy with no sun and lots of Ash that needs to be felled,

Besides this give me a chance to rebuild my Mac ms-1850.

I was cutting down some dead elm this weekend; I first used the 361 Stihl, then 1851 Mac then on to the third felling I grabbed the Mac and for the rest of the day the Mac is the saw I used, If I don’t do something soon the Stihl will be considered backup to the Mac before the husky 455.

Give that 361 a little break in time. After about half a dozen tank fulls it starts to wake up. Next half a dozen it starts to bark, after that then it runs like a Stihl 361. Yeee Haaa.

its on the 4th tank

cold start this morning 2 pulls with the choke one more without the choke it fired right up. warm starts are 1 pullers.

Seems to be breaking in nicely, with chain resting on logs (bark) it pulls the chain without much hesitation and cuts through the log (Ash & Elm).

To my dismay I found another red Elm today (standing dead) there getting harder to find, it takes a year to dry but burn better then the Ash, aswell as make fine bowls if the (Y) in the trunk and branches are solid.

From the pic it looks like you have the standard Rollmatic E on it, so I'm guessing you also have the standard low kickback (RMC?) green chain on it? I had my dealer swap out my b&c with an ES bar and RSC chain when I bought it and it really rips. Maybe you should try an RS/RSC chain out and see if that helps.
