First of all, I'm glad all you guys were unhurt. A wiser man than me once said, "if you have a problem money can fix you don't really have a problem". I use to think he was nuts untill I got a problem money couldnt fix........

I don't know about you, but when I was standing there, watching the truck burn... watching the fire fighters put it out... I was pretty calm. Not upset, nothing. Cracked jokes with the cops and firemen... As long as I made it out of the incident without getting hurt, and nobody else got hurt, those were the important things. Trucks can be replaced. No point in getting mad.

I think its the climbing that does it. When you hang from a piece of string blowing out trees with a saw you get some perspective on how fragile your life really is. Once you realise this, money stuff is just... money stuff.

Wow glad you are all safe. Hope the ins covers it all.

In response to pdqdl and using beer:

Don't use windshield washer fluid!!!! Three weeks ago I was replacing a lower control arm on my dad car. I had to cut the sub frame to get to one of the nuts and then reweld the frame. I was just about done and the bushing started smoking I told my little brother to get me some water so I could cool it down. He gave me a bottle of windshield washer fluid. I splashed a bunch on it and I got these really cool blue flames running around under the frame and floor pans. Luckily nothing else cought on fire. Next time I will use beer!!

Fords?

One place I worked in the 1980's had a F350 Wrecker that burned up the battery cables, I replaced the cables, looked all over for anything else that could have done it, finally decided it must have been a positive cable with a hole in the insulation and the evidence was toasted. Two weeks later it did it again, lost more than battery cables that time. They fired me, so I never learned what caused it.

NVM that was stupid. I see it now.

That sucks, hope insurance covers it.

Re: fire

Hi, Ozarktreeman, Boy, I'm sorry about your truck. Glad no one was hurt. From where your truck seems to be, could it have been related to catalytic converter or muffler touching the high grass?
I really do recommend a disconnect switch on batteries. So many times it seems to be too much trouble to disconnect the battery when working on a vehicle. And, of course, you have to reset things in these modern things (not so with my hand crank to start Land Rover), With a knife switch it's a no tool necessary job to disconnect the battery. Well worth the time to install. Just like tying in twice-you don't need to often but it's real nice every once in a while.

No It was not because. It was equipped with grass burner, investigators determined to be electrical, under dash or close.
But that what I thought started it but who am I to argue.

You must have gotten some of the windshield washer fluid that has alcohol added to prevent freezing. The beer-extinguisher I used worked fine, no blue flames added.

just plain crazy, waste beer?
p i s s on it.

The funny thing is that there was a six pack sitting right in front of the garage. Which was left in the car from one of my trips up north and got cooked in the sun turning it to skunk water:dizzy:

wow,way worse than mine. But still a total loss.

Wow. What a shame.
Does anybody keep full coverage insurance on their bucket truck? I don't and a fire like this would be a big loss. I think full coverage is really expensive on a bucket. I'm surprised to hear about so many fires.

Ins,hopefully wont be a problem,no claims in last 5 years.

Wow, glad to hear you have full coverage. Looks like it was a nice truck. I've had several "leaf fires" in the vent of my old F150 (I guess the fan motor brushes must spark and set off the accumulated leaf dust) but so far the fire goes out and all I do is roll the window down to clear the smoke so I can see.

I don't know I must have good rates,2 buckets,2 p/u,s all on commercial less than 400 a month.

Found a decent replacement I think.60:ft altec.F-750
Has 4 outriggers though. And heavier than what i,m used to.Does anyone have one with 4.And does it become a issue?

The only issues will be more possible leaks. It will definitely be more stable and weight you will have to watch the wet areas. Is it tandem rears?Diesel is it like mine brazilian ford 6.6 or 7.8 or is it cat?
