I stopped by my trusted, local dealer yesterday for a couple of
things and noticed something just wasn't right.
The Stihl and Jonsered shelves were about half empty, no new
2152's or 2186's to ogle, so I asked where the new saws were
and could we haggle on a trade in. " We're shutting the doors
in two weeks" was his response. He has had enough, asked to
keep too much inventory, making on average about 10 points
on merchandise, losing roughly 12 to 15 grand a month.
Business was owned by one family, around roughly 30 years.
I liked spending my money there, I never felt cheated, I know I
paid a little more for some of the stuff, but I really didn't care.
I could always ask stupid questions and get a straight, well
defined answer and the two techs there are top flight, never
had to bring anything back twice,I feel like these guys are my
friends. What to do now? I have to find another dealer and start
that whole d@mn process all over again. What a drag.
It's just sad, I hope that this isn't a trend, interfacing with younger folk at Home Depot concerning power equipment is like
clapping with one hand. Not much else to say, just a sad day,
felt like I was at a funeral. I bought a MS440 off his shelf, I'm not
much of a Stihl guy, but the price was unbelievable. "I feel like a
vulture" I said. He said "If you don't buy it someone else will,
and I'd rather see a good customer get a deal versus someone
off the street". He's trying to turn as much stuff into cash as he
can. Change is usually for the better, but not in this instance.
