Have you ever put your chain on backwards?

I bought my Alpina used off ebay and put the chain on backwards. Was planning to give negative feedback till I discovered my mistake. :)

Never oil in gas tank but gas in oil yes. Embarrassing as all git out as I couldn't figure out why the chain wasn't oiling so took it to the saw shop. Ouch.

Latest screw-up was with my splitter. Hadn't used it in a few years, pulled it out of the fence corner. No fire...pull plug and had to scrape fuzz off it to see if it even was a plug. Off to town for a new one, back, install, pull, pull, pulll, no fire. Screw-it, wrestle it around and hook up to truck and off to town with it and the load that was still on the truck. Wrestle it off the hitch and up to the shop door, just as the bench rat was coming out the door I looked down and saw the plug wire laying neatly alongside the plug. Did a rapid reconnect hoping no-one saw it. One pull and running. Tow it back home. Didn't need any "slow moving vehicle" signage, the red face was sufficient.

Brand new Echo CS 300. I put mix in the bar oil tank and bar oil in the mix tank. On this saw the mix tank is on the front (bar/muffler) and the bar oil tank is at the back near the handle. I pulled about 500 times then drove it back to the dealer who diagnosed the problem. I can still see the shop guys laughing.

I bought my Poulan 330 as a parts saw for my 3750. Once i received it through the mail I thought I would just see how bad it was. So I checked it to see if it would turn over first. Then thought I would check for spark. Well after not getting any spark for about 15 mins and checking module and connections. I noticed I hadn't switched the switch to ON. Duhhhhh. Worked on the carb and my 330 is runner instead of a parts saw i thought i bought.

I've done the on/off switch trick more than a few times, also the "duh, try disengaging the chainbrake" trick. I've also poured windshield wiper fluid into the coolant resevoir on my truck. A couple of nights ago I left the bearings out of a saw clutch; fortunately I caught it before I got it too far in reassembling it.

Angryblues, just be glad you checked here and took care of it. My buddy down the street did the same thing w/ his 029 and the dealer raped him to the tune of around $200 to "fix" it. The ???? saw had some miles on it and likely wasn't even worth that much. Then he sold him a 440 at full retail to boot.

Don't switch off!!!!!!!!!

and any little spark might mean… Kaboom!

So I’m really worried about sticking my key in the lock (and possibly causing a spark). I did it very slowly, then slowly turned the lock, then slowly opened the door. The inside was reeking with gas fumes of course.

I don't know if you were worried about causing a spark when the interior light came on when you opened the door. However, its good to remember that switching on does NOT cause a spark ... it is switching off.

This means if you come home one day and find your house filled with gas from the cooker or leaking bottle, DON'T turn anything off or you'll blow yourself up.

No Kidding! You guys are great! You know that feeling you get when you did something so stupid and you are just sick about it and totally ticked off? That was me. I was sure I was looking at kissing $300 goodbye for a new saw. You gotta believe I'll be double checking from here on out!
heh!

What a wierd feeling that must have been! But I wonder.... why SLOWLY? If it's gonna explode on me and I'm gonna go.... I'm going with GUSTO!

I have already instructed my Wife on this - when the day comes to etch something in my tombstone the most appropriate thing she could ever put on there would be "What was I thinking?!?"
