You have just proved once and for all what I have said for years, those that make the saws know more than those that run them. Stihl says 50:1 they mean 50:1, not more, not less.

Just want to add a little sidenote here on those who run or make equipment. I agree with you on the 50:1 issue, no doubt about that.

However, many improvements on equipment are possible only because of practical input/comments from those who actually use/run it. I've been working for a cable manufactering equipment manufacterer for many years, and I noticed most technological improvements were possible thanks to customer or operator ideas. Don't underestimate the input of the user...;)

Thats pretty common. I clean my screens every couple of months with a propane torch. I like running heavier oil mixes (32:1), it fouls the screen quicker but it makes the cylinder last longer.

I'm struggling with a vision of what your cutting. are you cutting off a block about 16 in. ( firewood) from a 8 in. log, then ripping it?

No, I'm taking a 16" long by 8-10" diameter log that was cut a year ago, and ripping it. Pick one up, rip it, level the curlyfries, set the chain brake, check for curly-fry cloggage, set the saw down at idle, go find another log, repeat. :blob2:

I'm a carver and I run at part throttle a lot. I've plugged up screens in most of my saws. MS200T did it, MS170 did it, Husky 136 did it, usually takes a few weeks. some i've cleaned, some removed. The bigger saws seem to be better- 046 hasn't bothered nor the 372xp. 346xp i removed from the start.

Good word on the spark arrestors, ADK. We all know that actual contact of the muffler to material is much much more likely to start a fire, but if you don't have a screen, they will hang you for it. And fires aren't cheap.

Actually the most common cause for fires from equipment exhaust systems is from carbon particulates more than from conduction from direct contact with exhaust parts. And this most often from poorly maintained equipment. So realistically just a removed screen is only part of the problem combined with allowing the exhaust system crap up with deposits and eventually those super heated deposits have to go somewhere...... This can occur on any dino powered equipment and has. Two strokers, diesels, lawn & garden equipment, automobiles, etc. Though direct contact/conduction can cause as well provided you set your heated exhaust directly on very fine and dry fuels, like dead & dry grass.

Canyon, just check your screen occaisionally and carb settings, you'll be fine. Good to hear your 361 is screamin' again.:blob2:
