hi all,
Just curious what you are carrying in the tree/on your harness.

For myself,
2 pulleys on slings, 3 or 4 carabiners, a couple of ascenders, a sticht plate, a shunt, flipline and micrograb etc, a couple prussiks all tied up neat.

If I'm speedlining then add about 20 slings over my shoulder with a carabiner on each.

Also a camelbak.

I've just bought a treemotion saddle and the mind boggles at the attachment points. I can easily see myself carrying an extra 20 lbs of gear up in the near future ;-)

Anybody carrying a first aid kit?

Shaun

I carry what I need for each individual job nothing more nothing less.. Carrying all that extra gear when not need just seems overkill. If I find I do need something I don't have with me then I have the groundies send it up. Most of the time it's three extra biners, a figure eight, a sling, and of course lanyard and hand saw.

First aid kit for sure with mostly major wound items. Blood stopper gel, large wound pads, adhesive tape. 6 nylon ties; 3 with ends started. Picture of Brad Pitt. I figure if I get hurt bad enough and they have to put my face back together, maybe they'll think that's what I used to look like.

I only carry what I need for the job at hand as well. I do always carry 2 loop runners regardless. I always find a use for them whether I am speedlining or not. If I am spiking then my ascenders stay in my accessories bag on the ground. If I am ascending I keep my hand ascender hooked on my caritool when not in use. I always have my handsaw attached to my saddle when I climb. In my ditty bag I keep a micro-pulley, my phone (in an ottorbox), a pair of grippy gloves (when not in use), some hard candy (in place of the tobacco I used to carry), sometimes a 2 way radio when I need it, and a few other odds and ends I'm sure I'm forgetting about.

my rope and saddle, with silky hand saw and a 2in1 buckstrap attached to saddle by a prusik loop, my helmet and cigs

anyone put a screw in there break away clasp on the silky zubat? mine keep getting snagged on the way up and falling to the ground. wish they didnt have that plastic clasp

My saddle, rope, 2-in-1 lanyard, hand saw, micropulley, a few extra biners, and a webbing sling or two. That's my standard gear, I bring more as needed, but rarely less, I always find a use for the gear listed. My hand saw has got me out of a few jams, and the slings make awesome foot/hand holds on long limb walks where a little extra reach is needed.

Oh and tobacco, that's a must.

Always keep a few biners mostly cuz they sound cool. I used to use a rock climbers chaulk bag for my smokes..then I quit smoking.....man...still blows my mind that I havnt smoked since 1/15/10....:sigarette::monkey:

Off my saddle: 395 or 357, three rope lanyards of varying lengths, short climbing line, six foot afs, eight foot jamison butt pole with hook end and no blade, three felling wedges, and a modified fencing tool.

I have found the 357 to be pretty good myself. Although sometimes I still take along my 9mm if I only expect light opposition...

What I carry depends a lot on the type of job, but I always go up with a hand saw on my leg, a few extra biners and an small 8 plate on the same biner my hitch climber pully is attached to, and I always carry a large pocket knife in my pocket.
Lots of times I carry a 3ft piece of bee line on a biner so I can use the end of my climbing line as a second tie in point. I also carry loppers a lot on my belt and my Gz brigade cell phone in my packet.
Depends on the tree.

Mind expounding on those items a bit?

Unorthodox style.

Two lanyards used for work positioning while cutting. The third is actually about forty feet long that i use as a redirect as needed since my climbing line is too short to use the tail as a redirect.

Afs so i can float around on stems when the hook isn't around. In case i want to drop down and start the cut or trim some suckers off, etc. Oddly enough, have always had a problem going down a stem on spikes. A way for me to get to the ground if i'm up higher than my climbing line length, just takes a little practice to learn how to drop and slide an afs down a stem.

Wedges, to keep my saw from pinching in stem cuts. They are never used to tip chunks over, just to keep the cuts open. Three because they get dropped or popped out and i quit doing the string thing a while back.

Fencing tool is just handy. Hammer, wire cutter, pliers. Modified mine by welding a deep well socket over the hook that fits on the bar nuts of my husky, and filing down the handle ends to work as screwdrivers. Can be used to tighten chain in the tree if needed. Hammer end is used to tap in wedges, or open hooks on my slings that get packed with snow. Bit heavier than a scrench but rides better with more carrying options on my saddle. A farm boy's leatherman.

I dont...6'5" and 305lbs doesnt belong up in a tree lol...Sorry had to put this down:)

I get it and I think it's funny. Thank you.
By the way I just got a 357, Husky type, and it is awesome.

I have an AFS to work or come down on a spar but never use it. The wedges are something I plan to add to my arsenal in the future for large removals... The fencing tool sounds pretty ingenious. I figured you used it for loosening up shackles when they tighten up considering the crane work you do... I've got an ancient fencing tool hanging in my shop wall that belonged to my grandfather...
