I recently purchaced a used Homelite 330 from a freind. in the bottom of the case was an extra chain that is obviously not to the 330. Went to a local saw shop and they said it was an obsolete chain for an old, big saw. Here's the description:

There are 60 drive links and 30 cutting teeth.
The loop is 30 inches long when pulled tight.
The drive teeth have the number 163 stamped on them.
The connecting links have BK stamped on them.
It is a big heavy duty chain.

I don't know which other measurements might be usefull.

can someone tell me what saw this might work on?

PS: Does anyone know where I can download the manuals for the Homelite 330.

Thanks for the link Mange. I actually came accross that site the other day but what i was looking for is the repair manual. I know that the saw is not worth investing much time in the shop so i'm going to have to do most repairs myself.

Photos of the old chain will be comming.

Atkins Saw Division, Borg Warrener Corp.

Look at Mike's site under the above name. You'll find the 163 chain listed. 1/2" pitch chain in both in .058 and .063 gauge chain. Hope this helps. Lewis.

To Bill G.

Bill, sent you a PM. Did you get it. Was looking for some Homelite decals for a 5-20, if you have them. I can supply their part numbers if you want. Thanks. Lewis.

I think I found it. It is an Atkins Saw Division, Borg Warner 163C or 163R. The "C" is for Chamfer cutters and the "R" is for Chipper. I assume that Chipper is a square shoulder cutter and the Chamfer is the rounded shoulder. This chain has the rounded corners so that would be the 163C Timber Chief. The measurment accross three rivets is 1" which would give it the 1/2" pitch. The thickness of the drive link is 0.063".

So, what kind of saw would use Borg Warner 163C in a 30" loop (60"if a rivet was removed and the chain stretched out)? Also, does anyone know the fair value of the chain before trade it for a $7.00 Homelite manual? The chain looks to have never been used and the drive teeth are still black.

Thanks for all your help. This forum is an amazing source of knowledge on saws.

Most chain manufacturers were proud enough of their product to stamp their name or logo on the cutter. Chain that was made for sale by direct mail or other types of outlets outside the chain saw shops was sometimes unbranded and had no identifier on the cutter.
The chain in the pictures is too fuzzy to tell but I would guess it looks like a Blue-Jet 1/2" which I do not have posted in my web page yet. The other identifier of chain is usually the number stamped into the right side of the drive link.

Thanks Mike.

The letters BW are stamped on the cutter links, which I assume stands for Borg Warner, and the number 163 is on the right side of the drive links. Unlike the chain in Mange's photo, the rivets in my chain are solid. Don't know if that makes any differance.

I will proberbly never find out what brand it is, but it would be fun to know.
Think Mike's right, no marks on the chain at all.
