Just brought a 357xpg and its running on 0325 all my previous mid huskys have come with 3/8 just curious to see if any one is running 3/8 on a 357 or is there an advantage to running the smaller pitch this one has come with?
cheers,mat

I always sell ours with 3/8" as it is my personal preference but occasionally people want them switched out to .325". I find the 3/8" to be a bit more forgiving and the 357 has no problem at all running it.

Mine is 3/8's. I would switch the rim over to 3/8 or buy stihl RS or RSC in .325 only to run .325 chain. Just my 2cents.

"Interpolating" a bit here, but my guess is that .325x8 and 3/8x7 will be about equal in smaller wood, maybe with a slight edge to the .325, provided that the .325 chain is Stihl RS or RSC.

The 3/8 will probably take over when the added friction from more teeth and/or problems with chip clearanse overtakes the .325.
When that will happen depends on several factors........

I would follow the KISS rule, and use 3/8" all the way.

I just got a 357xp too,(from Amicks) and went with 3/8 Woodsman Pro RC on a 20"Carlton pro-champ(GB titanium) bar(bailey's closeout)Just wish that chain had a witness mark for filing, but oh well. I'll leave the .325 to the old O26.
Have fun!

As you can see, we agree.

I thought I was the first one to answer here, but I obviously used too much time to formulate my post, as I was distracted........;)

I've been plottin' and stewin' and thinkin' I need a 357xp...

Except I need to run .325 to KISS my saws...

Im thinking I wouldn't tell a difference, or be dissapointed by a .325 pitch chain on this saw beings Im not cutting wood for a living. I want a little more zip to speed up my cutting, but overall it performs limbing and bucking some small logs.

Would one be better served with a 24" bar of .325 or .375 on a 357xp for the (very) occassional cotton wood (very softwood) that I might have to cut when the wind knocks one down, or I pull one down to clear it off a fence.

I have both the Husky 357xp and the 359 and a Stil 66. With a 20inch bar I use the same Oregon 3/8 pitch chain on all three. Makes it easer when buying new chains. Just my two cents.

Imo, that would call for a 3/8" full skip, to get as few teeth in the wood as possible.

I am also pretty sure that a MS361 would handle that task better.

Yea, Stihl offers it...

.325 RMF

While I probably wouldnt want the RM cutter in a cotton wood, since its the only wood I cut thats clean, the full skip would let me run a long bar and get away with it.
