What climbing line do you prefer, and why?

Neopro. I have been climbing on it for a little while and have fallen in love. It gives the feel and the toughness of a 16 strand so it can be natural crotched without worrying about the load distribution. It's an 11mm rope but it's a 16 strand so it is light as well.

I've not heard of Neopro. Who makes that, and where are you buying it?

Do you use a friction hitch on a double rope, split tail, or some other method?

I got Lava the week it came out and have used it with Tenex, bee line eye to eye, beeline split-tail, and recently, a lava split tail. I cut my line about 5 feet from the splice so I taped it up and have used the splice with 4ft of line as a split tail with a dog snap and micro pulley. The smaller diameter lines weigh so much less which translates to efficiency when pulling up tools and moving throughout the tree as you have to deal with less weight, it takes a while to get your hands used to it as it is harder to grip initially.

I've been using Yale's Blaze 24 strand with bee-line eye to eye. It's light and flexible. But I hate how much it milks with my bee-line. I'll be switching to something that doesn't milk so much, but is still light.

blaze and velocity are 2 great climbing ropes. both are good to splice and are very nice to work with. the v has more grip and the b is so nice n thin. soon they will come out with a dbl braid 11mm that can be safely spliced at both ends. the new tac rops are perdy nice too

These sorts of Which rope ... ? threads can produce a lot of seemingly
contradictory responses, unless a little more information is provided which
can make replies more helpful.
--what ropes have you used (your domain for comparison),
--what climbing system(s) ... used
--how much do you weigh (lard butts vs. liteweights)
--how long (climbing hours (months/years)) do you use your rope

... and, what other considerations?

With fuller information in reply, when Sue claims to favor A over B, etc..,
Hans's prior favoring of B won't seem contradictory if he's not tried A,
but in comparing to C & D & E. Or if Sue, a liteweight, likes the feel of
X and finds Y too klunky, but Hans, a lardbutt, thinks Y is just right!
What does Goldilocks use? Big Bear doesn't care!

Citing tensile strength in a climbing line begs the question: How does that
matter, at all? --one could say that they're all equally strong, never breaking
during climbing, right? Or is the intent to retire a line to some load-bearing
duty?

*kN*

ps: Don't forget the all-important fashion question: What COLOR(s) ... ?!

Imo this thread deserves a  That is really funny and quite witty. One for you Noggin.

I started out on Arborplex and now am on my True Blue. Both worked great with a split tail and a blakes.

Thanks for the critique on the Tachyon, Lava Moe.

Lava is Tachyon....Sherrill just changed the name and colors to make it look like their own..If you look in the catalog, it says in small print (Tachyon)...So it is one in the same...Another dude a work has it, and said today it was probably the fastest he's ever broke in a rope. Mine is broken in now, and its awesome. The only downfall I would say is, after 3 years on 1/2", if its a high climb, my hands and forearms cramp a little from trying to grip the smaller line, but still well worth it....

Also...Reason I chose it was because i wanted a line that didn't "milk"...I didn't wanna have to maintance my rope by running the bubble to the end and then cutting it and stitching the outter sheath back...

My partner and I are using Yale XTC and NE Safety Blue for the split tail with a Blake's hitch and minder pulley. I also have some Safety Blue climb line and it seems a bit "stretchy" as compared to the XTC. I have not noticed any "roll out" with the XTC

I'm happy with my double end eye spliced BlueStreak 1/2". Some meat to footlock with and never had a milking problem. I hear the thinner 11 mm lines are good for mechanical acenders, thank goodness I never had to use them.

Really helps having climbing ropes in several different lengths

Everyone has personal preferences on ropes. I prefer 1/2" over 11mm because I can grab it a little better. I find Safety blue the most responsive and consistent. Most often, there are only subtle, if not imperceptible differences in the brands.

What does help substantially when climbing is using the shortest length rope you can get away with. I carry a 75', 120', and 150'. Usually I use the 75'. It saves a lot of energy working with a shorter tail end.

Ive always preferred good ole three strand hemp rope, less steach and low in price at least thats whata I liked when I started climbing. I cant get away from three strand safty blue people tell me Im crazy but I thats what I like

i think it really sucks fer all the hardheaded think they know enough about everything old school climbers. threw many yrs in this industry i have met so many good climbers that swear by all the old junk. what a joke! lmao. seems to me people are afraid of change. dont matter if its for the better or not:buttkick:

Well I have two of different types one is safety blue the other new England
three strand. I have climbed on arbor plex but do not buy it for a climb line.
I have also climbed on grass and manila rope in the way past but definately
do not prefer them. Some of us old schooled just prefer to keep some money in our pockets and buy as we see the need:laugh:

Safety blue here. Thats a damn good rope - and the same thing as hi vee, just has some dye in it for looks or whatever, which weakens it by 700 lbs. I like the stretch as well. Have only ever had one rope (safety blue) that milked on me, must have been the way sherril cut it or whatever - was the size of a horse#$@# by the time I got to the ground, lol. But yes addmittedly old school - but not for long! I'm sick of all this talk! I'm gonna order my next saddle from friggin Pluto! I'll show all you "new schoolers", lol. Its gonna have more crap hanging off it....
