I`m sorry, but I`ve got to vent this issue.I checked the I saw it on CL /Ebay forum.Someone posted a listing for a Dolmar 7900 for $150.00.I new this could be a good deal, so I called.I talked to a decent guy named Zach.He told me it was his saw and his friend was listing it.Long story short, We came to a deal of $215.00 for the saw shipped. While I was talking with this guy,I could hear the phone beeping. He told me he was getting more calls and offers.we talked about being unemployed,we talked about getting ripped off on ebay, we talked about the weather, and last, but not least, we talked about how important it is to give your word and keep it.i explained that I needed to know if he truely was gonna sell me the saw, as I needed to have my wife leave work to transfer funds so i could pay him with paypal. He swore to god the saw was mine and to wait for his friend to send the paypal request. Before I hung up the phone, I asked if he would like me to give him more for the saw, as I knew he was getting other offers. His reply was:No, I gave you my word, I`m gonna sell you the saw.Well. it`s 4 hours later and he diconnected his phone and i haven`t recieved any money request.I would have given him more for the saw.I really thought he was a decent guy. What do you have if you don`t have your word?Does a promise mean anything anymore?I encounter more and more cowards as I get older.I guess I`m just old school,A mans word use to mean something. Not anymore.

It's a bitter experience when people don't keep their word. If you believe in God then you know the world is torn apart by sin. If you don't then you can also understand that the world is a pretty crappy place with people acting in their own self interest. Either way it's a nasty experience over which you don't have much control. Just be happy that you know what integrity is supposed to look like.
Regards,
Phil

As a side issue, a $150 Dolmar 7900 would throw up a red flag to me. A good running saw should fetch about half the price (or more) of new. Was the saw damaged at all?

Thats why I called. He himself told me he thought it was worth more, but wanted to turn it over fast cause he was unemployed and out of work.Like I said, i offered him more money. He posted it for $150.00.We all know what a big cc saw should sell for.We all hope that grandma sell gramps saw for dirt cheap. The bottom line is I had a grown up man to man verbal contract with him.He ran and hid instead of maning up and telling me he was gonna sell it for more money. He disconnected his phone. And yes, he said it was a fine running saw.

That story gives me a little different vibe. I'm thinking that he probably sold the 'saw' to several others and let you off the hook because he got to know you during your conversation. Imagine how dissapointed you would have been to pay for the 'saw' and never receive it. The whole thing reeks of a scam, the friend's paypal account, the outrageously low price, the $65 for shipping, the disconnected phone. I'll bet he felt sympathy for you and that is why he didn't complete the scam. Consider yourself lucky.

Unfortunately, it is true in many cases today a person's word is no longer their bond. There have even been cases I have read about on this site of members stiffing members, misrepresenting their items for sale, lying about their statements and otherwise losing credibility. The bottom line is when you enter into a verbal agreement with someone you need to be forward, give the information needed, make your promise and KEEP IT. Honesty should not be the "best policy" it should be the only policy. That's my 2 cents worth.

So maybe his phone was shut off for non-payment and he can't call his friend to finish the deal.

If this is your first experience of being lied to in this world and it upsets you this much, you are in for a long life. Get over it and move on. Saw was probably stolen anyway.

Ever get the idea that you got lucky not getting this saw........It was local to me in my area and it seems there is a bad story that goes along with this saw........I just hope the person who bought it enjoys it ,because the real owner lost out bad ............Not Zack!!!

I just spoke with someone who confirmed it is indeed a stolen saw, so yes I do consider myself lucky.Good thing I have a sparkling personality, huh?:)

Good thing it didn't pan out. You'd have been out the money, and for a stolen saw. Much better to vent a bit in here over something that didn't happen than take a hit in the wallet for something that did. :)

If you think this behavior is ok, then remind me not to ever deal with you!

Didn't mean to sound like it was acceptable behavior to jack someone around on price for said merchandise. Just saying this ain't Mayberry; be prepared to encounter some sleeze. Your last post confirms what I thought all along. Stolen.

No problem, but maybe you ought to move, cause my town is real similar to Mayberry. As far as lifes lessons on sleeze bags, I`ve seen and done s#%@ I aint proud of, but If I shook your hand or made a promise, I kept it.

Good people finish last, its a rat race out there and no one has any morals.

Heres a story... my old man, who is the owner of the business just cant learn... he is very old school... every now and then he will drop off wood at clients and then gets stiffed. Mind you that we usually have two cords on the trailer and charge $150/ for it... which in my opinion is more than fair price... last time he only got $40... I tried countless times to explain that this is not "when he was young"... money first then dump it... "But what if they dont like the wood?"

Now it even happens with the jobs. I was really an inch away from beating the crap out of a client and feeding him through the chipper (and Im really laid back person) when he stiffed my old man with the excuse of pointing at me and saying "He's your son, you dont need to pay him." Something about going that extra mile and slaving all day, just to get a kick in the balls at the end.

Moral of the story... at least you learned your lesson, some never will :)
