This may be an addiction in process...

Talking to a friend at work, his father passed away and he has two old Disston two man saws with the mercury engine decals with a bunch of extra stinger bars and chains in the shed. He want's $100 for the pair and is supposed to bring them in to work tomorow. Is this worth it? If I get them I'll try to get them running just to play around with.

2 saws and parts for $100, if you like old saws, that would be hard to pass up. If they were just old, 1-man saws with power products engines, I would probably have to pass, but 2-man Disston saws are too cool to let go.

I don't know,PP,made some pretty peppy engines, during the "glory days",of 2 cycle karting. If I recall, they were AH 58,and AH 82.They weren't as popular as Westbend,or McCulloch but would hold thier own .I would well imagine that repair parts would be a real hard thing to find .It would make an interesting project,as would the large Disston saw.

For $100 you'd be a fool not to buy the saw. I say go for it. maybe you'll find the pleasure I do in playing with old magnesium.

Canguy, thanks for the offer, but I would probally pay $100 to ship that monster here. MACman, thanks for the picture. Talked to the guy and he says his mother aggreed to sell the pair for $100 so I just have to wait for him to go get the stuff in his truck. It's part of his fathers estate and they are waiting for warmer weather to dispose of all the stuff at auction, but are selling parts off now. I can also get from what I understand a complete forge and ironworkers setup for $200. God only knows what I would do with one though... Too many dreams, not enough time to play.

He reiterated that they are both two man saws with the rototiller style handles and monster bars. Should date from '48-53 or so.

Congratulations:

Hello Ranchero50. Congratulations on the the saws. Have been trying to get a couple Disston 2 man saws for my collection. They're around but haven't scared any up as yet. Have watched ebay, but can't afford their prices or shipping. With a little time, patience and TLC you'll have them runing and bringing you some good times. Take care. Lewis.
