What's everyone's thoughts on the value of a sthil 090

It has a few cracked covers however runs nicely

Can someone tell me what I should be paying for this beast

With all due respect that is an impossible question to answer because there are so many variables.
1. Is it an original 090 or one built from China parts
2. Is it an AV model? If so is the old style or new style AV
3. Is it a gear drive
4. What bar does it have.
5. What condition is lower recoil side handle bar mount in?

There are so many factors. I will just say running anywhere from $500-$2500 and folks will argue with me on that

Let me know what you think

It probably is but like I said I would start around $700 and you and the seller will probably agree higher. I am a live auction person. About a month ago I wanted another little Ford N series tractor. I valued it at around $800 but I did not bid that at first. We started at $200 and ended at $700. Now a private sale is a different story. If the guy is asking $1000 then that is probably a fair price to pay. If that is true then you needed to say that in the beginning instead of asking.....Can someone tell me what I should be paying for this beast.................... You asked and I gave you a number to START with I did not say end with.

If he was asking $1000 you should have said that

I purchased a non AV, Fully OEM and original 090 with new 36 inch stihl bar and chain for a little less than 1500 this spring. I don't want to disclose the exact price as I purchased it off a member here and I don't know if he wants the price disclosed.

It runs fantastically and is in great condition. In fact, taking it to my Cabin this weekend to cut some logs I bought this thing for.

I don't think I'd pay $1,000 US for it; would want to give it a very close inspection in person before I paid more than $150 for it, too. Need to make sure case is intact.
I can understand and appreciate that. :) The old style AV handle setup is a nice part to have but you cannot just pay for it. Also as I noted that front lower mount is a huge issue. As you noted the case is a big issue hence the reason I posted about the handle bar mount. They break easily and are near impossible to fix hence the case is bad. After he posted the pics it is obvious the saw has been beat hard. I have never seen one with a top cover broken like that. Take that and couple it with the position of the missing/broken recoil cover fins I am thinking it took a hit from a falling tree but the top loop does not show it. It was have been a glancing blow.

Yep. If the case is busted, it's a parts saw. I'd also want to give it a good once-over to see if anything else is roached, if any aftermarket parts have been used, to ensure it's an 090 cylinder and not an 070, etc.

Trying to think Bill as I have had a few saws through the system.
But I don't "think" so.
I got 2 for $500AUD and sold one.
Trust me I know all about the "trying to think part "  I always said I had a memory like a steel trap. My beautiful ex-wife would remind me it was more like silly putty
