Quartersawn, it's really beautiful stuff. Lot's of small rays. It's been a while since I burned any but I recall it split more easily on the tangent than radially.
I won't work on them when they are in leaf. The fuzz on the backside of the leaves becomes airborne when jostled around especially when chipping. You breathe it in and you'll be hacking up furballs for a couple of days.
I've burned it before and will burn it again, no doubt.
When seasoned, it's good for this time of the year, burns better than snowballs and leave my good hardwood for the dog days of winter.
