What kind of wood

I was offered a lot of free firewood recently. I went out to the wood lot and grabbed a couple trailer loads of ash and maple, but I was wondering what kind of wood these are.

Looks like cherry to me.

Cherry? Cherry I've dealt with is redish and the bark almost peels off like birch. Actually just made lumber last week out of a few pieces a guy hauled up from Oregon.

The pics are too small and blurry to really tell. Also location would be helpful.

If it's east coast, I'd might think it's beech.

Pics are blurry. I was thinking beech as well, or maybe cottonwood. OP location says Frenchie-Land Canadia.

Looks like poplar to me.

First pic I'd say some type of birch. Second pic is a conifer. Look at the branching pattern at the bottom of the log. And isn't that pitch coming out of the branch scar?

I'm familar with trees I deal with. Choke cherry I've never see grow very big. Maybe 6-8" dbh, 30ft tall. Never heard of pin cherry.

one picture is of some beech and the other has a lot of white / yellow pine.

as i sit here patiently waiting the obvious answer, yet it never comes.....

softwood as it may be, its still firewood if you split it and dry it

I agree with pin cherry. The bark makes it very hard to split with a maul. The log at the top of the second photo looks like it might be hackberry.

The first one is definitely aspen or young cottonwood.

The second one could be a multitude of different species just going by the pic. With a picture of end grain and split as well as the smell we can figure it out for you.
