Rant time.... thinking the flywheel on this old battered 25 Usd Ms 180 was going to be my nemesis, I was wrong.

I HATE AV buffers! What are they doing on a darn ms 180 anyway?!? My cats purr produces more vibration! They drive me nuts putting those stupid grommets back into their hole.

Tore my thumb up on the bucking spikes was very painful too.

So, tell me, what part drives you bonkers?

On the plus side, I brought this (last one in the shop and as it was a demo got an awesome discount!) tool caddy! Now I don’t have to rummage. Makes the rebuilding that much more enjoyable (doesn’t make up for AV buffers being a pain in the butt though!

Getting them out may be a pain, but getting them back in is a breeze when you put on a little silicone grease on them first

Putting the big end rod bearings in an o15. I had one years ago that I was fixing and got fed up and threw it in the trash. I was younger then and had less patience lol

Tom, work on enough of them (lots of those wee Stihls end up getting a big drink of straight fuel) and you will find that particular method of AV mount and one piece handles to be a piece of weeze to pop off. Experience teaches you tricks and shortcuts- like lubing the joint as suggested above.
The worst part? Probably seeing the quote for the OEM parts needed to complete any repair.

Yes you are absolutely right, I lack all experience and the tips and tricks which I’m slowly picking up, why I didn’t think to lube them I don’t know, Thanks for that

Are big end rod bearings the two on the crankshaft either side of the oilseals? I have no idea how to get them off let alone back on. I guess having a socket to fit the inside race should work if you don’t have a bearing press or puller?

Noticing the intake flange is on the wrong side of the carb box after the Hondabond setup overnight.

Gluing together a clamshell poulan realizing that you forgot to put it in the case before you put in the bolts and tightened them lol.

I seem to always put an external clutch on without a rim....

Oh

Getting a carb and boot on some models without removing the cylinder with it, particularly the 550xp.

*Edit*I believe I remember that it’s not really possible to get the boot off without cylinder removal on the 550!

Haha I like it as far as, it’s rewarding to clean a saw when it needs fixing, not when it’s someone else’s haha

What I about despise the most is getting the wiring hooked up and back in like it suppose to be. Getting it to work on the kill switch right and all the little rubber seals in and wire not in a mess. A lot of times things will go pretty smooth until the wire and then it is time to take a break and get the wire in.
