Last year I built a fourstroke chainsaw mill. It worked well for me and I enjoyed the building process. I would like to build another mill but can't decide on which kind. Maybe a bandmill or a swing mill or a dimension mill or maybe just a resaw. Please give me your suggestions and maybe some photos on your homemade mills.

Linn Lumber is practically at your back door, would be worth a looksee to whet the ideas as well. I have an AlaskanIII and am going to revamp it, so I can increase production, since $$ currently won't allow me to buy their saw head kit. I plan on building a modified frame/rail structure that will be trailer able, made primarily of doug fir timbers, with reinforcing steel where needed. Wood is way less $$ for me than steel, I will fashion a saw head rig to run on this for the CSM first, then upgrade to band for production when I can afford to. I plan on incorporating hydraulics for a turner, clamps and toe boards. I will quick connect to the hydraulics on my skidder, so I don't have to go the expense of another power unit. Hope to build it this winter.

What to build?

build a bandsaw mill. they're very simple machines at heart. thin kerf, quick cuts, fun to build. i built one last summer and had a really rewarding experience. wasn't so sure it was gonna actually work after all my fooling around but it works great. i probably have around $1200 into it with the majority of that being the steel. (i was loaned an engine).

ill see if i can find my thread from when i posted my pics....

I run a Linn lumber bandmill and its a great mill! Cheap to operate and easy to use. There is a lot of room for customization....worth looking into.

Well after looking into all the options I have decided to try my hand at building a bandmill. Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful. I am on a low budget but I am pretty handy at making things work. Thanks in advance for the advice and pics:msp_smile:
