Hi,

This is a large spruce/pine whose root is wreaking havoc with my driveway as per the attached picture.

The tree is about 60' tall, and the root that is displacing the driveway is about 12" in diameter. It is about 4' from the base of the trunk to where I would have to cut off the root and repair the driveway.

To the right of the picture is my house, which I am rather fond of. Some of the locals I have contacted suggest that removing the root could destabilize the tree (some outright refused to do the work) and the tree could fall on my house.

I don't think I have a lot of options really, but just thought I would ping the forum and see. I guess when it comes time to sell the house I can have the tree taken out, fix the drive way, and the new owner won't have any idea what is missing. Just sad to lose a tree.

Thanks all for any suggestions.

Appears to be more than one issue. Is that a crack in the walkway futher down?Another root invasion. That double spar(codominant)May be an issue in the future. As they grow in diameter they'll be pushing against each other...not a strong attachment.Suggest finding a certified arborist.....One with experience.Making a decision based on one pic without being on the site is not practical.

Second thoughts...Would it be possible to cut a section of the driveway(Pavement cutter) over a foot or more to the right?Don't know the length of your driveway from the street to a garage? That would possibly solve the root problem for awhile. The codominants would still be an issue.Cabling would be a possibility to stabilize the upper area. a pair of parallel bolts(washers and nuts also) thru the base as a preventive.
All this could be expensive..find a CA.''Generally''consults are free.
