My project at the moment is trying to bring an old super ez auto. It runs but boggs way down when it is in the cut even with a brand new chain. I tried to tune the carb but I'm not getting much change when I turn it leaner or richer. So I figger a carb rebuild kit was in order. I ordered the kit and new tygon fuel lines and gonna get a new filter. What else should I replace well I got her all pulled apart? I was thinking about a new cylinder gasket that way I could maybe pull the cylinder apart and clean it and the piston up. I'm getting 145 psi compression. Is that a good reading? Would new piston rings be a good investment? I don't really want to put a whole new piston in and I don't think it needs it? Would new reed valve be a good investment? What about the gasket between the carb and the cylinder? Any other good things to change out that are not a huge investment?

Thanks: jeff

Put the carb kit in it and replace the fuel line and filter and let her rip. If your getting 145psi of compression your good to go on that saw.. If it's an older one with points you might pop the flywheel off and check the condition of the points.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'm trying to make this more of a project than it needs to be and should save $ to work on the next one? What am I lookming for when I am checking the points? What is the difference between good and bad or wore out?

Jeff crank seals are what you should be putting on your priority list, in fact anything made of rubber.
As for compression,145lbs is actually getting to the low side on one of those. Good ones run in the 160lbs or above range.

This is what I was thinking as well. I would like to make a list of the gaskets I would need and try to order them all at once if possable. Does anyone have a link to an exploded view of the super ez auto. One with parts numbers would be extra helpful ;) I will do some searching myself but if someone had the link save and ready to throw up here that would be grate.

+1, I see tons of those saws and almost every one of them is scored up beyond repair due to air leaks

Will get on ordering the gasket for the cylinder. Trying to make a list of the rest of the other gaskets I need and the parts numbers for them and trying to get them all at once from the same place. What would be a good place to get them from ebay or one of the site sponcers or any of the guys on the forum? What about the reed valve? Any other parts that just should be changed with time? Just want to get everything I need ordered so I can get on my way with installing it.

I have 2 I'm going over right now. Do you know the dimensions for the seals?

Thanks,

Not sure on exact dimentions but the parts number is 65018 if you search ebay for super ez automatic cylinder gasket you will find it. Its only $3 but then another 3-4 for shipping. I hope to find someone that wll sell me all the gaskets for a fair price then combine shipping. Or ill just say hck with it and pay the $3 shipping on each part and be done with it. Not sure how much running around looking is worth but it prolongs my project I guess. If I move too fast I will need new project saws sooner than later.
