I don't know why this is bugging me but...
Back in 1953 I spent one fall working the slash chain feeding a chipper in the (?Twin Feathers?) lumber mill in Kamiah, Id. The position was just off the head saw. I admired the way the operator was able to maneuver the logs onto his feed table from the green chain, tossing them up in the air with a arm coming up through the floor vertically.
What was the name of that 'kicker'? Somehow "niggerhead' (comes to mind but I dont' think that is correct.
I cleared the floor one day when a chunk of 1/4" plate from the chipper chute 2'x3' went through the chipper.
How memory for detail does fade.
