I have a stihl 026. Starts on 5th or 6th pull. Bosch plug. 36 to one mix. I can understand it might take awhile if it has set for awhile. Im talking couple hours later or thenext day. Saw runs strong. Would like to yank on the rope a little less. Good fuel 91 octane, stihl oil at 36 to one. How do you guys do it?

Warm up the saw before starting. I fire mine up, blip the throttle a few times, maybe even cut a tree down. Once it's warm I shut it down. As long as it's warm it starts first pull every time. Hope this helps, John........

My 026's usually start just about on first or second pull. However 36:1 mix ratio may make it a little harder to start but it should be easier than what you claim. If the carb is adjustable have it readjusted, fairly fresh fuel will also be a plus, change the fuel filter and clean the air filter as well or do get a new one. Small things such as the plug and an old line will also affect the startability and theyre are others also, but do start with the most obvious ones I have posted.

The fuel slowly leaking back out of the reseviors in the carb might account for the several pulls. The fuel needs to be pumped back in to the card before it can start delivering adequate amount of fuel. Is it possible that week or worn carb parts or small holes developing in the fuel line might add to the fuel draining back out of the carb? The motor may run just fine as long as the carb is adjusted, but would there be any other possible reasons for the saw to start after several pulls?

It seems that it is mainly be not enough fuel to start on the first pull. Probably the reason for a primer on a lot of newer equipment.

Now I feel bad about being sarcastic in my first post. The real trick to one pull starts is to retrofit a primer system. My Lawn Boy mower and Husky string trimmer both have them and they start with one pull about every other time.
John......
