whats this 046 part for?

I have a 046 stihl, under the air filter is a plastic part covering the carb. There is a part # on it: 1128 121 6900. What is the purpose of this thing and is there any advantage in removing it? It looks like a restriction to me. Thanks for any info.

It stops the spitback from the carb soaking the air filter.

It stops the spitback from the carb soaking the air filter.

It also helps hold the air filter in the correct position until you get the cover installed. I have no idea if this was one of its intended purposes, but it does help!
