Gear - Climbing - Harnesses at MountainGear.com

this is what I`m talking about;
would that be ok to buy for tree climbing ? with the saw and all ?
Not really. First off there are no hip d rings to clip in with a saftey lanyard. Also I would think that the wieght of a chainsaw , even a small one, would really pull down one side to much. Maybe one could use a type of gear sling to hold chainsaw ...? This type of harness may work ok for trimming with a hand saw but with out the hip D rings it would be near useless for spur climbing IMO. And since you said you are new then that complicates things even more. Trying to use gear that wasn't intended for tree climbing and being new at the same time seems like a REALLY bad idea. I realize you are trying to make do with whats available and I respect that but I think it would be a mistake for anything more than setting a rope high, tie in on ground, and climb around , maybe trim alittle with a hand saw but that would be about it. Also... This is just my opinion based on climbing trees for over 20 years...I dont know much about rock climbing gear...There may well be much more to it than I realize...I suggest trying to get a proper arborist saddle. Good Luck!!

They are not designed for bearing loads like we do, systems designed for aid climbing may work a little better, but they still suck in a tree. You do move a lot different on a rock-face then in a tree.

When I say I am alittle thick I am talkn like ...38 inch waist (for blue jeans) and I gotta work at stay outa 40 inch. If I dont watch my diet an exercise in the off season I will def plump out.

I have a 38 inch waist too, but my leg is 39 inches (inseam). When I was a young-buck and wanabe body-builder I had 28 inch thighs too :laugh:

I am six-nine/two-fiftyish, so a ten pound swing in my weight does not really show up much ;)

Thank you guys, I value your opinion.
I have nobody to learn from and since I insist on going this way it is only fair to assume I`ll be doing some mistakes.
I will get the saddle designed for tree climbing; but the cheap one at the beginning. If things look up, I`ll move to Petzl Sequoia and other top items. I`m a Petzl fan actually although I haven`t owned other than a front light.
If business go well, I guess I`ll have everything I need to go on.
for now I have some bucking firewood to do, so it is all good.
Cheers.

JP is tall!

6ft 9 is pretty darn tall. I am a frog hair under 6ft 3 and rarely look up when talkn to someone. my weight is about the same as you. I havent met many climbers my size let alone bigger . I havent met any actually but i dont get around much. JP u mentioned your young buck days...AAHHHH the good old days (sorta)... I could easily fit into a 32 inch waist and could Ddrt up a tree so fast it was unreal. That was about 15 years ago.....now I just walk down to the cows and....:cow:
Anyway I think I will take a look at a Buck Master..never really checked one out.

first REAL saddle!

I am climbing with the Master Classic. I bought it about 4 monthes ago and love it! I, like some of you on here am having some issues wiht the way the sides tighten up, expecialy with the cold weather gear on. It tends to be a real pain. I would like to have some of the Deluxe options on this saddle with out the front multi attatchments. I do not have any issues with things getting hung up on stray branches or stubs from previous climbers. I have heard that the treemotion saddles have a tendancy to get little branches hung up in them. I cant say one way or another on that but I would like to try one out and see for myself. I can say that sence this is my first REAL saddle I am very happy with it. I see it in my tool box and it just calls to me saying "lets go climb a tree" I get disapointed when were having to chip that day!
