My neighbor, let this friend of hers on her place, he liked to cut firewood.
Anyone who looked at his stumps, and the mess he left, would understand he had no training at all.
He had a cheap helmet he bought, figured he was all set.
Then he was felling a dead beech tree, and the top sheared off and smacked him on the noggin. When he came to, he stumbled around the bush for an hour or so, his eyes would not focus. But gradually they did, and he managed to get to his car. He drove himself 30 minutes to the hospital.
That was a year ago, he still suffers migraine headaches and one eye is still dilated a bit. He had a massive concussion.
He returned to work but on reduced duties. When his contract came up for renewal, he was let go.
He's still out of work, and his GF dumped him.
That helmet? Giant dent in the top, no safety rating at all. It did save his life, so credit for that, but his life has now changed, perhaps permanently.
Asked why he didn't come to me for a ride to the hospital, he says he doesn't even remember driving there.
