So you're telling me I need to get out my chainsaw, to remove a tree, so I can reach my woodpile, to stack the tree I just cut up on it?

(About half my town is out of power...real wet, heavy snow and even though it ended almost 12 hours ago the fire departments around me are still being hammered with power line down calls)

beautiful pix anyways u call it... what we would call 'fresh powder' even though its heavy... still, untracked snow is an awesome sight!! good snowball making snow...

So,

You've never heard the term "tree magnet" before?

From the looks of things it appears very little if any damage was imparted to the pile, a testament to the quality of your stacking skills.

You probably don't, but if you need or want some help, give a holler.

This storm ended being about the same as a modest ice storm...stopped snowing 24 hours ago, and the regional fire dispatch has sent out 40 wires down calls since 8am as limbs keep coming down.

1PM and looked like some of the out-of-state contractors had just arrived and were having a tailgate meeting before heading out -- same outfit already had a number of crews working around town.

Never saw this firm before (Danella) but their equipment looked in better shape than most Crinkle & Destroy outfits I've seen.

Not much damage here -- so far I've counted three small trees, several large limbs, and one big split tree that came down on the big pond but the ice is way to thin to deal with that one :(

Will have to get an arborist in here in a couple years to clean up some trees that are too close to my secondary wires for comfort...had three or four large limbs that must have bounced off them when they came down in this storm.

This storm was supposed to be flurries up until 10am Thursday when the Weather Service started posting warnings it was coming much further west than expected.

Since it's a lot easier to work in my cube at the office than from home, there was only 2" on the ground on at 7am, and it was going to be over by 2pm I figured I'd drive in and leave at 2:30 to get home in daylight so I could open up my driveway (hoping the real estate office next door would be plowed out so I could park there while I did so)

The parking lot was the worst though, the roads where all down to black pavement. But during the height till after lunch time the roads were a mess -- the snow was that super-greasy kind, and about the density of wet cement.

Belmont Street in Worcester:

Next town over from me had a nice write-up and photos from one of their fire districts at the height of the storm:
South Killingly crews were out responding to multiple emergencies during winter storm Ellie which dropped nearly a foot of snow on the ground. The Firefighters responded to 28 separate emergency incidents over 24 hours beginning at 6am Friday. Calls included: downed power lines, downed trees, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and several fire related incidents. Major roadways were effected by down trees or power lines including RT12, Westcott Rd and the complete closure of RT 6 near the Rhode Island line. Mutual aid companies that assisted during the storm include East Killingly Fire Department, Danielson Fire Department and South Foster Fire. A big thank you to the men and women (who by the way are all volunteer) that worked tirelessly during the entirety of the storm.

Nightmare in the NE corridor.

Just west of me, I-84 east and west were shutdown by the State Troopers from Willington / Ashford thru Union to the MA line. Not terribly uncommon as Daniel P. still refuses to recognize Windham County as a part of CT. Bigelow Hollow was a complete disaster, the DOT didn't get the go ahead from Newington to begin plowing early enough and never caught up until the snow ended in the early evening.

The only tree that could land on my firewood pile would provide about 3 years worth of oak. A HUGE monster in my back yard. I hope it doesn't, though. I've had a tree service out twice to evaluate some dead bark and loosen up the soil around the roots. Wanna keep that beauty as long as possible.
