Most cities have an ordinance that allows for private towing of "abandoned" vehicles on private property. Get a copy of the law that was used, and make sure that all the rules were followed.

In Kansas City, if the location is not properly posted with a sign of certain dimensions and stating certain facts, they can't tow the vehicle without risking a lawsuit or crminal charges. It is likely different in your area, but well worth the work to find out.

If towed by the city government, then a police officer must first issue a ticket.

That's how it is in Kansas City.

The tow truck came on Wednesday, but neither the police, the manager, nor the towing agency said my truck was towed. I had to hear about it from a "letter" from the towing agency. They sent the letter the next day "after" it was towed, then it took 2 days to get to my house only a few miles away. There's really nothing I can do because nothing I can do will get me any money back, so I'm trying to leave it be and just move on. Hence my post to you guys...

Are you saying that you didn't even know it was towed until you got the letter several days later? If you were doing work with it, you should have noticed it gone the next day and started asking some questions. If you didn't notice it gone, how many days had it been sitting unused before it was towed? People see a truck sitting in their lot several days and never used or moved, odds are it's gonna get towed.

Everything gets parked at the shop every night!
