Hello chaps,
I have been a professional climber for 6 years and apart from working in Britain, I worked for a year as lead climber for a small business in Sydney, Australia. Working in a different country gives a massive amount of experience and new techniques and i havn't come across a better way to develop since.

Forestry doesn't float my boat!

Apart from OZ and New Zealand, where in the world can i experience a mixed, varied and professional arb scene?

What parts of USA and Canada?

Indianapolis, Indiana. You need a job? We can talk off line. Just finished a 6 month with an apprentice and I miss that cat. He was an A-student and is off running his own business right now.

As for me, December was booked in June, most of January is accounted for and I'm not taking much more than emergency work right now. I like solo work, but I'm having to turn a way a lot of calls because as a one-dude operation you can only do so much in a day. My income doesn't change much whether I have an employee or work alone, so I haven't been recruiting.

Are ya lookin to mix it up? I'll help you establish a place here, get you a vehicle, tab at the brewpub, etc. I am not joking.

Oh, and welcome to Arboristsite. Where's Isle of Man?

Dude, best jump at the chance to work with the sling god.
TM would be a great bossman, as well as teach you all he knows. THats uncommon in this field. Esp with his level of experience.
I agree working with other companies is the best way to get a full bag of tricks. I worked for about 20 companies in my first 6 years.

Good afternoon tree machine,
that was a quicker reply than i expected.
The Isle of Man is an island (12 x 36 miles) right slap bang in between England and Ireland. The common description is '75,000 alcoholics clinging to a rock!'.

I am looking to hit the road again in March - May 07. so i would consider anything at the moment because i have no plans.

With an accent you could melt the Women here. And we've got an English pub near here, you could feel sort of right at home.

I'm interested in a team-up, just as long as it's understood I get all the real technical ones.

Drive times to ANY of our jobs is one to three minutes away. Very little driving, big advantage on that.

Sweet.

I studied arb at college in England for 2 years and have worked in a few different situations. Im currently head arborist for my local authority but the work load is tiny so i have no desire to hang around.

What is the majority of work you do and on what trees?
And of course, whats the pennies like over there? ;)

Where do we go from here?

Where you from xtremetrees?

Tt

Can't forget to mention the world famous Isle of Mann TT- one of the greatest motorcycle 'races' (actually a time trial, hence the TT) in the world. And of course, the master of the course, the late Joey Dunlop.

Certianly.
Next June marks he 100th yaer of the race but it has never been the same since Joey.

Have you been Bob?

Almost 100% hardwoods. Trimming and treecare is our bread and butter, from baby dogwoods up to major Winter crown reductions. Pruning up away from houses, pruning for view, deadwooding, a little cabelling. We have artsy fartsy pruning, and technical limb removals over slate roofs with everything in between. Extreme variety. Very few conifers. No palms. Takedowns don't comprise a large percentage of the overall work, but I've been deluged with them lately.

No possibility for boredom. Pennies start at $15 an hour, the benefits are unique and appealing, buzz jobs are encouraged. I want you to be successful and happy.

I really must get to work. Good afternoon to you, but it's early morning here, coffee's working, trees are calling.

Welcome to the site creeper. If you are looking for big money you should come to Boston. A climber who is halfway decent will make upwards of 20 an hr., and there is no lack of quality tree co.'s from large to small. People are constantly asking me if I know of any climbers looking for work, so I could hook you up with a list of potential employers' phone numbers.

Beyond that, BOSTON IS THE HUB OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!

An hour drive to great skiing in the winter and an hour drive to great beaches in the summer. Plenty of Bars and a whole bunch of new college chicks every fall!

thanks for your reply OTG Boston.

like i said ive got no plans except that my feet are itchy and i want to push things forward. i would be looking for something after march 07 and willing to hold a position for 6-12 months.
i am considering tree machines very kind offer but you can never have to many options. I've never been to the states before so its hard to picture the situation, i would be most grateful of any tips and contacts.

I would consider myself to be a competent and efficient climber with room for new tricks but you can only compare to climbers around you! Hopefully British climbers are better than the Yanks. What do we think? :D

My apologies sir, i didn't set out to offend. Just having a joke. I have met a million Americans who are cool with that term.
I will take mental note.

I'm just messin' with you. I guess you really wouldn't get an american baseball reference. It's all good, the Boston Red Sox/ New York Yankees rivalry is kind of a big deal here. Kind of like the Soccer Houligans you have across the pond.

Cool.
So whats the major type of tree operation in Boston?

Is a tree warden the equivalent of our Local Authority trees officer? If so, how is local authority work in the states?

Well Dan, hows things?

I think im the only Brit on this site. And why is it that its still the morning where you are and your not doing any work?
Must be local authority too? Goals, not deadlines. Effective, not efficient!

Ben
Somwhere between England and Ireland.

If youre thinking about another stint in Australia but this time in Melbourne I can always use another good climber. Have had guys out from the UK & NZ before. Its a great learning experience both ways, picking up new tricks from each other and having some fun as you go.

Good luck wherever you end up.

Trev

know it all

Looks like you've got it all figured out.

Hi Trev,
I really fancy another stint in OZ but im almost sure that im only allowed 1 working visa. Do you know any different? OZ government has changed some of the visa rules lately. Maybe that is one!
