hey guys I live in upstate SC and have been reading about Dolmar never have heard of them much at all. I have recently tore my MS440 up mostly from previous rebuild, threaded end of crank seems to have been over tightened and from pulling it seems to have just wrung the end of crank off:mad: I love the MS440 and am looking at them but want to also give the Dolmar 7300 a gander seems like a real contender in all aspects. thanks!

i emailed Dolmar_tech_Mgr on this site and he found a dealer in Central SC... let me know if you need that info (it won't help you much if you're in Spartanburg or Rock Hill areas... )

so will the 3/8 Stihl chain work but I can buy Husqvarna style blades. how is the build quality of Dolmar cmpared to Stihl saws I know you are brand loyal but do they honestly compare I read they are an old company and German made I think so I figure they are good. what is a ball park figure on a 7300 and 7900 powerhead only?

A knife has a blade, chainsaws use bars. Sorry but it's an important distinction. The Harry Homeowners going to Home Depot to buy a Poulan Wild Thang ask for a 'blade'. Real saw owners know it's called a bar.

Your dealer can discuss the basics about bars and chains. Stihl uses mostly proprietary stuff and their bars won't interchange with other brands. Most of the other brands use the same 2-3 mounting patterns. Dolmar mounting patterns are the same as Husqvarna, Jonsered and others.

You can use Stihl brand chain on any other saw. You just need to use the correct length, pitch and gauge. Discuss this with your dealer and also read the owner's manual for more info.

Good luck and don't cut your leg off with that sharp 'blade'. ;)

3/8 chain is 3/8 chain, regardless of who makes it. So, to answer your question, you can use Stihl-brand 3/8 chain on your Dolmar, should you end up buying one.

As for the bar, Dolmar large-frame saws such as the 7300 and 7900 use the HU-style bar mount pattern, which is the same as the large-frame Husqvarna bars. This allows you to use any bar that would fit a large-framed Husqvarna.

As for quality, most everybody will agree that Dolmar's quality is on a par with Stihl and Husqvarna. This favorable impression extends to a couple of the saw builders who frequent this site. From my limited experience, I am inclined to agree.

As for price, you should be able to find a 7900 for a hair under $600. The 7300 should be closer to $550, I'd imagine.

Car-Quest auto parts in central ohio is stocking them.......

however to my knowledge they have no chainsaw experience. at least my dealer has none.

hey skwerl sorry for the terminology I see it now and am embarrassed and thanks for everyone elses input I have got to see and use one of these saws soon
