You can buy:

Aftermarket parts

Used parts salvaged off old saws

New parts from guys who buy and strip saws for parts resale

Occasionally NOS parts from guys who buy a dealership going out of business

A few 'bought but don't need' parts

No authorized, full line, stocking dealer. But you can still get lucky sometimes.

Define "best".... In my experience Stihl dealers are, for the most part, useless. Stihl needs to start offering IPLs and accessory parts online.

Stihl needs to realize that saw shops are rare and most Stihl dealers sell larger/higher priced equipment so it is not worth their effort to support the few customers with "pro saws".

Yes sir Reganr, the two closest stihl dealers by me want to sell saws, blowers, trimmers etc. That's it. If you want a loop of chain or oil, fine, but parts are 1-3 weeks on just about everything. If there were decent alternatives I'd do it in a minute.

Yup. Im leaning toward the H- H- H-Husky saws, just because of the night and day difference in service between the two. Kinda sucks 'cause I like my stihls .

I guess I am lucky when it comes to my dealer. He will order me a part and I usually get it the same week. Sometimes the very next day. It just depends on when he orders.

There are small shops that are technically dealers, but primarily a hardware store or lawnower place, etc.

And there are dealers that sell and service a lot of saws, stock a parts inventory, get stuff in on a weekly basis, etc.

The latter is who you need to find. Even if they are not the closest one.

I think it is more of a volume and focus thing than a brand thing. Although, you may choose your brand based on available dealer support in your area.

Yep, my dealer is also a small hometown hardware store.

I am very lucky. My closest dealer sells Stihl equipment only. He even hesitates working on other brands.

Granted I haven't bought a ton of parts from him but he has never had to order anything. Justs goes to the back and grabs it.

Well, the truth be told, that is one of the things that sent me to Husqvarna. There was a time when I had all Stihl. Sure they have good saws, but then so does Husqvarna.
