I was watching a Bob Vila show maybe 2 days ago. They were out I guess in California. Bob and this other guy were walking around a property and then went outside. A big Juniper bush had to be removed. As I watched the show they had a construction worker up in the tree maybe 5 or so feet off the ground. Maybe 10 feet. Well the construction worker did not have a safety line on, or saddle or anything else. The guy went and was swinging a chain saw around all over the place. To keep himself up in the tree he had his feet in a crotch and had his back up against a branch. Then he had to take off the branch which he had his back up against so he got down and was cutting above his head with a chain saw. There was a guy on the roof with a little Manilla rope that was too short. The guy was supposedly pulling on the rope and when the branch came part way down he had to let go of it otherwise he would have been pulled off of the roof. I was wondering that if they were on a Bob Vila show why wouldn't they follow ANSI regulations? I mean putting something like that on public TV is asking for it really...

Just my opinion though.

:D About a month ago they had a repeat of an old This Old House on from Fl. I think. These jack of all trade guys who obviously had no business taking down a tree were trying to remove a tree about 20 " diameter with notches going every which direction. They cut away for a commercial and came back and these goofs were still trying to pull it over, they finally got it over having no idea which way it was going to go. Steve made a comment like we'll need a real tree service for the other trees, I'm kind of glad they showed it maybe some people will think before letting these roving Gomers do their tree work.

last week i was watch Americas Funniest Videos. these people were cutting down a tree. the guy was kinda blocking the view of how he was cutting, the girls were pulling on this little rope that looked like a boat tie off rope! the rope snaps as the guy is almost thruogh the wood and the tree goes over backwards....... right on top of a minivan! crushes the van and i was laughing my butt off, but then i thought ...im really glad no kids were in there watching their dad .
i would like to get a copy of that and put on my website that is being built and put "WHY HIRE A PROFESSIONAL TREE SERVICE, CLICK HERE"!
i bget it would make alot of people think twice about doing it themselves!

You're preaching to the choir here.

Take the time and find the webpage for Bob Vila and then call the show's producer. Sending an email won't work.

This Old House generally does a better job with tree work and landscaping. I was poking around their website and the landscape contractor who answers their mail bag does a good job with tree questions.

I remember the Florida show. I watched a couple of more shows in that series as they rebuilt the gardens around the pool. The project turned out quite nice. When I saw that clown cutting, in cutoffs if I remember right, I wondered how the tape was going to play out.
