Looking to install class A chimney (through wall) in a 2-story building. Any suggestions what what brand and where to get it?

Been looking at menards' supervent.

TIA

All UL rated should be fine. The Supervent at Menards is one of the cheapest especially with a sale. I know a lot of people use it on this and other forums.

I used Excel Chimney dual wall insulated class A I bought from a local stove shop. It cost more than the discount stores partly because it is rated to Canadian standards which are more stringent than the US. I figure in my installation with 20 ft of pipe enclosed in a chase and attic that I wanted the best I could get and for me it is worth spending more in this case; I want to do all I can to prevent burning my house down. It fits together tight at the joints and uses screws to attach unlike the supervent or duravent that thread together sections.

Most important is a proper install with support and clearances followed properly.

I can not suggest a particular brand. Not all brands are comparable with each other however, so stick with one. We used a triple wall, which seems to be an insulated double wall with an outside air space and third jacket or wall. It can withstand chimney fire temperatures once or twice without being compromised. More than that, it should be replaced. Kind of like fall protection equipment, such as harnesses and lanyards, or hard hats which in their case needs removed from service every few years or 'if stressed'.

I'm not sure that the brand matters as long as you can get everything you want in the same brand. Starting with the wall thimble you want a single brand all the way to the cap so that you get a good fit at every joint. The way the pipes join to each other varies a bit from brand to brand so don't just buy chimney that is cheaper for you if you can't buy all the other pieces easily.

I bought mine from Lowe's. I think it was Duravent. It has been a few years but IIRC it was about $30 per foot and it was special order. I'll echo what others said about compatibility. The same manufacturers make different versions for different stores and they often will not work together so plan on buying everything from one place.

Might I ask why the 8"? Most newer stoves only need 6". 6" is about half as much as 8" and often in stock. I went with the 8" because I was installing an older stove. In retrospect I could have bought a new stove and 6" pipe for the same amount of money as just 8" and saved myself many cords of wood as well as simplifying the install.

If you must have 8" then so be it but if you can get by with 6" I would do so. If your plan is to install an older stove then consider the lesson I learned. I did upgrade my stove and it works just fine on the 8". I burn 2/3 the wood vs the old stove and have double the burn times. I just wish I would have done the 6"/new stove from the get go.

Manual for indoor boiler calls for 8".

Thanks all. Confirming my research.
