So with so many different ropes out there all with different price tags, what advice/recomadations can anyone give me? i'v noticed that the prices differe from company to company, so any help in finding the best would be aprreciated. been looking at the sherrill store, the prices seem good so it may be worth while paying the shipping costs to the uk, has any one else done this? does it work out cheaper? :blob2:

I order my ropes and most all of my gear from Sherrill, but if comparable gear was available in the UK I would first check into that to save the shipping costs.

Talk with Little Witch, Caroline, at Proclimber in Wales. You can google her to get the contact info. Let her know that her cousin sent you over :)

The smaller diameter lines are really nice. If you have large hands you might not like them. Using grippy gloves helps to reduce any forearm splints or aches. I've been using Blaze and gave my Velocity to our lead climber. He likes it now that the sticky coating has worn off. Until the tack was worn off it was dreadful he said. We both worked on cabling the state champion Shumard Oak last week. We both liked how light the ropes were when we had to haul up cabling supplies. They're both about 2/3 the weight and volume in the bag as traditional ropes. I still like my Fly too but it got nicked so I only have two short ropes :(

I have a tight spliced eye on my fire xtc. The splice is incredibly strong and it saves a step in the process. I am very pleased.

Cheers TM,
so theres lots of good ropes out there i'v just got to use them and decided really.
thinking of buying from sherrill if they let me know the shipping costs to the uk, but can any one tell me why pheonix rope is cheaper than the fire even though the pheonix is stronger? is it just coz the fire looks pritty?

You need to look farther into the charicteristics of the rope.

What do you like when climbing, more flex in the rope or less, slicker surface-which can be a PITA when footlocking, but help if you natural crotch on large limbs.

Since i climb on large trees frequently, I like the small diameter core dependant lines for that work and a regular 16 strand for shorter trees. I have 3 different active climbing lines and a low streatch kernamtle for SRT, which i rarely do being a big guy.

proclimber

i got some ropes etc from proclimber and can say that they have been pretty good with my requests. good folk and they have a forum. which is nowhere near as busy as this one but works well all the same.

i got a length of arbor master and a shorter length of xtc. not yet had a proper try of them yet. spliced eyes i would say are a must. saves tying a knot and andrew makes them tidy.

ive been trying to splice an eye (as nick knows all to well), it wasnt working though.
