I am going to suggest a gift or part there of to my parents and decided a new small saw is in the books.

If $$$$$ were no object it would be a 020 with which I am very familiar, however keeping things in reason, and given this will make #3(the other two are much larger), I am considering either a Stihl 170 MS, which there seems to be an advertised price of C$270 at present, or an Echo 3000, which I saw in HD yesterday for C$299.99. Other than wanting something smaller than the other two, I am being motivated here by price more than anything, or can someone else make a better suggestion.

I had an 017 and sold it, as soon as I did I realized how useful it was, yep bought another one. 017 is maligned here but in my opinion a fine saw.

OK fine I am going to look at both tomorrow night-Brian I will
go with the 340 if I choose the Echo-should be about $100 Cdn more here. Boss #2 last year used one as his climbing saw-though not sure which model it was, probably the 300 as I recall him saying his new one was about $300. Tanx for the info.

Somewhere between C$325 and C$375. I looked at the specs and the $$$$ seems worth it. Sold my house and am moving to Toronto end month for the summer at my parents so I will have a little extra cash for a change.

That might be an option, but then I have to consider multiplying the cost by 1.4 to pay for it in Cdn $, communications and cheque/paypal costs, the cost of shipping to Canada, customs brokers fees, duty, GST (7%) -what have I missed? I think I will stick with something new off the shelf here.

Hey Jumper, if you are moving to Toronto, the SARS capital of the free world, why not hook up with Gypo and let him show you where the best dealer is. I think it would be worth seeing John just for the sake of seeing him in person, the saw shopping would be a bonus.

Yes he is not far out of town. Hogtown is having its share of problems with SARS. I see the WHO has placed it back on its travel advisory again as a place to avoid if possible. Maybe I will take a detour on the way there.
